Google’s RCS-powered Chat comes to Italy and Singapore

1 5 月, 2020 Michael Allison 0

Google promised to bring RCS to more regions in 2020 after a limited release in 2019.

What you need to know

RCS is a set of standards that makes SMS a contender in an age of instant messaging.
Google rolled out its implementation of the standard in 2019 to the U.S., UK, Mexico, and France.
Now reports indicate it’s testing it out in Italy and Singapore as well.

Google’s RCS service is reaching more people after an initial rollout last year. Reports of the RCS set-up screen popping up have emerged from Italy and Singapore. Italian siteTuttoAndroid (via Android Police) noted that some Italian users have gotten Google’s Chat prompt upon launching the Messages app. At the same time, some Singaporean Messages users have shared screenshots of the same prompt on social media. Google itself has yet to share anything indicating a roll-out, but the growing presence of the prompt means one can’t be too far behind.

Silence those klaxons by disabling emergency alerts on your Samsung Galaxy

1 5 月, 2020 Jeramy Johnson 0

Before I begin this how-to, I want to start by saying that Amber and emergency alerts play a vital role in spreading public safety and security announcements, and these are essential communications. Acting quickly on locating injured or missing children or elderly is also vital. That being said, I am human, and I can acknowledge that there have been occasions where I really couldn’t be interrupted (especially by a blaring horn sound), or I was already aware of the safety issue in question. Here’s how to disable or silence Amber and emergency alerts on your Samsung Galaxy phone for those times when you need just a bit of respite from those blaring klaxons.

How to disable Amber and emergency alerts on your Galaxy

Note: To disable emergency alerts on a Samsung Galaxy phone, you’ll need first to make sure that you have Samsung Messages set as your default SMS app. If you do not, you’ll need first to make that switch, then follow the steps below. Then you can switch back to your favorit…

The leaks weren’t coming from the inside, apparently.

How to spend less on a pair of true wireless earbuds

1 5 月, 2020 Joe Maring 0

True wireless earbuds have gotten great over the past several years. The ones you typically hear about are super expensive. Still, there are some great budget options out there, such as the Creative Outlier Air, which offer fantastic battery life, great comfort, and superb sound quality.

Best Overall: Creative Outlier Air

Battery life is one of the standout features of the Creative Outlier Air. Even compared to some high-end true wireless earbuds, the Outlier Air outperforms most of them with up to 10 hours of audio playback on the buds themselves. The included charging case nets you an additional 20 hours of audio playback, which equates to up to 30 hours of listening time. The only real downside is that the case does not feature wireless charging, which is unfortunate.

Comfort is excellent, but only if they fit your ear. Unlike most other earbuds and true wireless earbuds, the Outlier Air only come with one extra set of ear tips in the box. Typically, earbud companies will inc…

The aftermarket vehicle data/tracking service Automatic is shutting down

1 5 月, 2020 Phil Nickinson 0

And rebates are being offered.

Automatic — which uses a cellular-connected device plugged into your car’s OBD-II port to provide diagnostic, tracking and analytics data — is shutting down. The company sent out an email to users today noting that the COVID-19 pandemic is the cause, and that means the end of “the Automatic connected car product, service, and platform.”

The service will shut down at midnight Pacific time on May 28.

Automatic was purchased by SiriusXM in April 2017 and featured a couple flavors of connected car devices. Automatic Pro housed its own 3G radio and could upload information at its leisure, which also allowed for real-time tracking of a vehicle. Automatic Lite relied on a Bluetooth connection with your phone to upload the data.

Automatic worked with pretty much any car out there, and with both Android and iOS devices. You’d buy it once and have a “lifetime” of use. It’d track each drive, showing how much (and where) you traveled, estimating the cost …

The best wheels to take your PS4 racing to the next level

1 5 月, 2020 Richard Devine 0

If you’re looking to get into console-based sim racing, then the PlayStation 4 is a strong place to be. Not only does Sony have a strong first-party title in Gran Turismo, but it’s well supported by third-party offerings like F1 and Project Cars. To take your experience to the next level, a wheel is a sound investment, and the good news is that there are some really awesome choices for the PlayStation. This includes the Thrustmaster T300 RS GT, which is the best option for most people.

Best Overall: Thrustmaster T300 RS GT

The T300 RS GT isn’t the most expensive wheel, nor is it the most feature-packed or advanced when it comes to the tech inside. However, what it is, for most people, is a fantastic all-rounder that balances all of these things. It’s approachable for newcomers with an attractive price, yet still delivers a quality experience.

It might be a Gran Turismo-branded product, but it’s great for all racing games on PS4 and PC. The wheel rim itself is 11 inches in diamet…
