Today, just before the weekly reset, fans have been greeted with a story trailer packed with brand-new cinematic shots and character moments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/destiny-2\/\"><em>Destiny 2: Beyond Light<\/em><\/a> is just three weeks away at the time of\u00a0the trailer release. It was delayed from its original launch date to give the developers a bit more time to iron out rough edges and ensure a healthy launch. As the game is more or less complete at this point, the studio has been ramping up its pace of releasing news.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-vaulted-content-youtube-series\/\">Destiny 2 Fan Turning Vaulted Content Into a YouTube Series<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>While the general pitch of the story has been known since the\u00a0initial\u00a0<em>Beyond Light<\/em> stream, this is the first time fans have been able to see pre-rendered\u00a0campaign cutscenes. The main draw here is the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-beyond-light-eramis-who\/\">re-imagining of Eramis, the Shipstealer<\/a>, as the empress of the new Dark Fallen\u00a0empire on Europa.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/k6c6M0rKW7s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The trailer clearly shows Eramis addressing her followers, telling them how\u00a0her kind needs to\u00a0climb back to its glory days. She bestows <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-beyond-light-subclasses-luke-smith\/\">the power of Stasis<\/a> on her loyalists, a new Dark element first discovered on Europa, so that they can wreak havoc. This gesture hearkens back to Oryx and how he used his Dark power to terrorize the system. The main difference is while Oryx used the power to bind his compatriots to him, Eramis endows her kin with the same power she has. Her collection of Captains is also reminiscent of the diverse cast of Barons from <em>Forsaken<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0returning fan-favorite character, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-beyond-light-variks\/\">Variks the Loyal<\/a>, is also part of the group of Fallen on Europa. However, he is openly terrified of dabbling with Darkness, believing that it will lead to his kind&#8217;s downfall. He desperately sends out a help signal, which is first answered by the Exo Stranger. This call for help will be the start of the campaign missions once players boot up <em>Beyond Light<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/destiny-2-beyond-light-eramis.png\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>One pleasant surprise is the reappearance of a voiced Guardian. <em>Destiny 2<\/em>&#8216;s first year was notorious for having a silent protagonist, the player character. This story trailer shows the Guardian conversing with his Ghost on Europa, a welcome addition to the campaign. Bungie ends the trailer with a quote from Eramis revealing her endgame, which suggests\u00a0that the Traveler will have its comeuppance for abandoning her kind years ago. This could also be nudging the story towards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/bungie-destiny-beyond-light-witch-queen-lightfall\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Lightfall expansion<\/a> where the Traveler will, in some way, be assaulted.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, it is great to see concrete evidence of a strong villain who will drive the story in <em>Beyond Light<\/em>. Many veteran players are fond of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-taken-king-anniversary-beyond-light\/\"><em>The Taken King<\/em><\/a> because of how well illustrated Oryx was as the defined antagonist. Likewise, Eramis looks to be a charismatic leader, and will provide a clear story motivation for the beginning of Year 4\u00a0in\u00a0<em>Destiny 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Destiny 2: Beyond Light<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0releases November 10, 2020 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
