As one <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war\/\"><em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em><\/a> fan left a match, they found an interesting prompt pop up at the last minute. Unsure of exactly what it means, they put it up on Reddit to seek public opinion.<\/p>\n<p>It is not uncommon for large games like <em>Call of Duty <\/em>or <em>Apex Legends\u00a0<\/em>to have bots built for training new players. While these bots are usually left turned off, some games like <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-bots-how-work\/\"><em>Fortnite <\/em>have used them to fill lobbies in the past<\/a>. That is part of what raised this fan&#8217;s concerns when the game decided to disable &#8220;Bot Autofill&#8221; as they were leaving the game.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-barrett-50-cal-sniper-rifle\/\">Call of Duty: Black ops Cold War May See Return of Barrett .50 Cal Sniper Rifle<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The clip was captured by A_Reddit_ID and showed the prompt of a notification reading &#8220;Disabled Bot Autofill.&#8221; This prompt was apparently triggered as the player was leaving the match suggesting that up until that point, bots may have been involved in the matchmaking process. With major <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-reverse-boosting\/\">discussions revolving around skill-based matchmaking<\/a>, it is not impossible that lower-tier lobbies may struggle to find players. An easy solution for filling out a lobby could be to include bots into the match to supplement the player count. If the lobby was low tier or unskilled enough, even a basic bot would not seem out of place among the game&#8217;s competitors.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/blackopscoldwar\/comments\/jdn95r\/seems_like_public_match_bots_are_possibly_being\/\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Epic Games<em>\u00a0<\/em>received some major backlash from the community when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/fortnite-human-bots\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Fortnite<\/em> first implemented bots<\/a>. At some level, the bots make sense as they allow lower-skilled players a chance to achieve some kills. Still, for many players, bots are nothing more than incompetent teammates as they tend to become more of a hindrance than a help.<\/p>\n<p>Players are connecting this message with the appearance of duplicate names on separate teams. Names like &#8220;Hopper&#8221; and &#8220;Hoonigan&#8221; have been seen multiple times and appear like bot default names. There is a chance that bot auto-fill will be implemented into the main lobbies to ensure that <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-duty-black-ops-cold-war-beta-skill-based-matchmaking-sbmm\/\"><em>Black Ops Cold War<\/em> players can play at their ranked skill level<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The conversation of bots in lobbies ties back to the inherent discomfort many fans have with <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-fans-sbmm-black-ops-cold-war\/\">SBMM enforcement in casual playlists<\/a>. While the developers believe that SBMM is necessary, some fans may consider the addition of bots into their <em>COD<\/em> matches crossing the line.
