People who haven’t bought a copy of\u00a0Pokemon Sword<\/strong><\/em> or\u00a0Shield<\/strong><\/em> yet, or who want another copy for friends or family, are getting some good news from both Amazon and Best Buy. Both games are $20 off\u00a0from these vendors just a day before the Crown Tundra<\/em> DLC<\/a> releases for\u00a0Sword<\/em> and\u00a0Shield.<\/em><\/p>\n

Neither\u00a0Pokemon Sword<\/a><\/em> or\u00a0Shield<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>have seen a price drop this high in the entire time that they’ve been available, so this may be the opportunity people were waiting for if they were turned off by the $60 price tag. Although $40 is still a lot of money in many people’s minds to be spending on a video game, it’s a pretty good deal given current gaming price trends, and\u00a0Sword\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Shield<\/em> are not likely to be this inexpensive for awhile.<\/p>\n

This sale is great timing, as many Pokemon<\/em>\u00a0players are excited about the release of the Crown Tundra<\/em> DLC tomorrow<\/a>.\u00a0The DLC\u00a0will take players to the titular frozen setting and get access both to new interactions with NPCs and some returning Pokemon that haven’t been seen yet in\u00a0Sword\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Shield.<\/em> Since\u00a0Pokemon Sword<\/em> and\u00a0Shield<\/em> are the first main games in the series to not include every Pokemon, many people are relying on DLC to fill their Pokedexes in this gen.<\/p>\n

It’s interesting that players didn’t see a similarly large sale when the first Sword<\/em> and Shield<\/em> DLC,\u00a0Isle of Armor<\/em><\/a>, released this summer. It’s possible that retailers wanted to wait until a second DLC released to tempt players, now that people can know what to expect from a DLC thanks to\u00a0Isle of Armor<\/em> reviews.<\/p>\n

While some people buy video games the second they’re released due to the anticipation and build-up of hype, other people prefer to wait for reviews or to wait even longer for a sale. In that last case, this sale is the first time\u00a0Sword<\/em> and\u00a0Shield<\/em> have been available for this low, and another sale like this may not happen for a while. And although Pokemon Sword<\/em> and Shield<\/em> sales have been impressive<\/a>, this sale is likely to rake in some extra numbers from those more cautious buyers, in addition to the sales Nintendo is likely to make off of\u00a0Crown Tundra<\/em> tomorrow and in the following days and weeks.<\/p>\n

There’s a lot in Pokemon’s Crown Tundra<\/em> to look forward to<\/a>, but there are also some things some fans are worried about, like how the\u00a0Crown Tundra<\/em> lore will fit into the larger\u00a0Pokemon\u00a0<\/em>canon. Either way, if people do end up purchasing a discounted copy of\u00a0Sword\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0Shield<\/em> from Amazon or Best Buy today, they’re not obligated to purchase\u00a0Crown Tundra<\/em>, especially if the reviews aren’t great.<\/p>\n
