It was the release of\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fire-emblem-awakening-review\/\">Fire Emblem: Awakening<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>that\u00a0led to a massive boost in popularity, and saved the series from being outright canceled.<\/p>\n<p>While it&#8217;s certainly more prominent in the West nowadays, there are still some\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/fire-emblem\/\">Fire Emblem<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>games that have remained Japanese exclusive, including the very first one:\u00a0<strong><em>Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light<\/em><\/strong>, which released in 1990 for the NES.\u00a0In a surprise announcement today, Nintendo confirmed that this game will finally be localized and release in Western territories\u00a0this December.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fire-emblem-marths-past\/\">Fire Emblem: Everything You Didn&#8217;t Know About Marth&#8217;s Past<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Technically,\u00a0this isn&#8217;t the first time the game has been made available outside of Japan, as it was remade for the DS in 2008 as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/10-integral-units-use-fire-emblem-shadow-dragon\/\"><em>Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon<\/em><\/a>. However, this isn&#8217;t a remake,\u00a0it&#8217;s the original NES game, virtually untouched.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8xNUYS-tJZQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Nintendo has made some changes, primarily its English localization, but also adding modern touches to help make the game more accessible for players &#8211; especially those who may have been introduced to the series\u00a0via more beginner friendly entries like\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fire-emblem-three-houses-maddening-mode-tips\/\">Fire Emblem: Three Houses<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>First,\u00a0players can create save states and rewind turns should they lose a particular unit (since characters permanently die) or make a mistake.\u00a0There are also options to fast-forward through the gameplay or enemy turns.<\/p>\n<p>While it is releasing digitally for Switch, there will be a physical collector&#8217;s edition for sale as well, which includes a replica game box, instruction booklet, map, an art book, and even a replica of the game cartridge. So far, though, it only looks to be available in the United States.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NintendoAmerica\/status\/1319279583036755969\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Nintendo says this release, both digital and physical, will only be available for a limited time. It doesn&#8217;t list exactly when it will be delisted, but this is the third Nintendo title this year to have a limited run.<\/p>\n<p>Both\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/rumor-switch-super-mario-3d-all-stars-games-sold-individually\/\">Super Mario 3D All-Stars<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Super Mario Bros. 35\u00a0<\/em>are only available for purchase until March, a decision that has mostly been met with criticism from fans\u00a0and video game preservationists. In\u00a0<em>Super Mario 3D All-Stars<\/em>&#8216; case, there have been claims that\u00a0its three games will be sold individually at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen if Nintendo will give other Japan-exclusive games a similar treatment.
