The upcoming cyberpunk-themed slasher platformer Ghostrunner<\/em><\/strong> was announced to release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 when it was revealed late last year. Now, with only one week before launch, developer One More Level announced that Ghostrunner<\/em><\/a> will release on the Xbox Series X\/S and PlayStation 5 as a free upgrade for players who own a current-gen version of the game.<\/p>\n

In Ghostrunner<\/em>, players take up the role of a sword-wielding assassin who is tasked with killing The Keymaster, a villain who has taken over the world. The title\u2019s gameplay looks to be inspired by games such as Mirrors Edge, with the player character traversing a neon-lit dystopic city by running along walls and leaping off of skyscrapers. One More Level first showed off Ghostrunner<\/em> at Gamescom 2019, and gave fans an in-depth look at the game\u2019s slasher platformer elements with a 16-minute showcase at IGN\u2019s Summer of Gaming in 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the developer recently confirmed that Ghostrunner<\/em> would also release on Switch<\/a>, news about the game launching for next-gen consoles did not surface until today, when One More Level announced that players who purchase Ghostrunner<\/em> on Xbox One or PS4 will be able to play the game on the next-gen version of their console with a free update. But even though the PS5 and Xbox Series X\/S are dropping in November, the free update will not be available until sometime next year. The exact release date for the upgrade has not been revealed.<\/p>\n

Ghostrunner<\/em> recently had a private beta<\/a>, which started in mid-September. Only a fraction of fans who applied via the official Ghostrunner<\/em> Discord server were selected to participate in the event. Everyone who participated was required to sign non-disclosure agreements, which has prevented news about Ghostrunner<\/em>\u2019s gameplay from surfacing.<\/p>\n

Despite the released gameplay footage and beta, Ghostrunner<\/em> did not have a confirmed release date<\/a> until last month\u2019s PAX Online 2020. That is when One More Level announced that the game would release on October 27.<\/p>\n

Ghostrunner<\/em> is available to preorder on platforms including the Xbox One, PS4, and PC via the Epic Games Store, Steam, and GOG. Players who are excited to pick up that game might want to act fast, as Ghostrunner<\/em> is currently 20 percent off until October 26.<\/p>\n

One More Level\u2019s decision to provide a free update to launch the game on next-gen consoles seems to follow a similar trend as other game releasing at the end of 2020. This year\u2019s other big Cyberpunk-themed title, Cyberpunk 2077<\/em>, will also come with a free update<\/a> of the game\u2019s next-gen version.<\/p>\n
