They both take place in a shared world, they <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-combat-systems-open-world-rpg\/\">both have RPG elements<\/a> where players can tailor their character with select abilities and builds, they both allow a party of up to four to engage in co-op missions, and they both have a wonderful loot system.\u00a0They also both start with a &#8216;D&#8217; and end with a &#8216;2.&#8217; However, despite their similarities as looter-shooters, they are both totally different games with unique approaches to the genre.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-exotic-weapons-from-destiny-should-bring-back\/\">Destiny 2: 10 Exotic Weapons From Destiny That Should Be Brought Back<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0<em>Division 2\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-worst-post-apocalyptic-games\">is a post-apocalyptic game<\/a> that lets players restabilize society,\u00a0<em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>is a more futuristic game that takes place in the vast galaxy, thereby allowing it more liberties in level design and gameplay mechanics. On the other hand,\u00a0<em>Division 2\u00a0<\/em>is more methodical and tactical given the military specialist setting. With that said, here&#8217;s a list of what one does better over the other.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Destiny 2 | Free-To-Play<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/destiny-2-guardians.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>One of the main leverages\u00a0<em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>has over\u00a0<em>Division 2,\u00a0<\/em>or any other looter-shooter out there for that matter is that it&#8217;s free-to-play. Costing absolutely zero dollars, players are treated to an amazing MMORPG with a stunning and varied open-world. Or, in this case, an open galaxy. It costs nothing to experience\u00a0<em>Destiny 2&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>breathtaking content that puts a lot of $60 titles to shame. What this does is it brings in a larger community, allowing for a more thriving multiplayer and co-op experience.\u00a0<em>Division 2\u00a0<\/em>on the other hand, constantly goes on sale; sometimes reaching a 95% discount. But even a $5 price tag is exponentially pricier than Free.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Division 2 | Better Open World<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Division-2-Washington-DC-ruins.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>While\u00a0<em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>boasts an entire galaxy to explore with each planet being varied with biomes and enemy types,\u00a0<em>Division 2\u00a0<\/em>manages to make a\u00a0ruined Washington DC tell a story. What the world of\u00a0<em>Division 2\u00a0<\/em>lacks in <em>Destiny&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>verticality and platform, it makes up in puzzles, content, random events, hidden areas, and overall complexity. Each square inch of\u00a0<em>Division 2&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>world has something to say, each room conceals a side mission, and each collectible in the world reveals deeper lore about the game outside that of main missions. Players can stumble upon a building and next thing they know, they&#8217;re in for a boss fight.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Destiny 2 | More Exploration<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/destiny-2-beyond-light-pyramid-ships.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>While the\u00a0<em>Division 2&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>world is better suited for tactical RPG gameplay, the world of\u00a0<em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>is larger, wider, and has more verticality. Because players in\u00a0<em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>have much more mobility than those in the\u00a0<em>Division,\u00a0<\/em><em>Destiny\u00a0<\/em>tailors its world accordingly with\u00a0more open landscapes and higher structures.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-crucible-game-modes-ranked\/\">Destiny 2: Every Crucible Game Mode, Ranked<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A mountain or a building in\u00a0<em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>isn&#8217;t just a set-piece. It is an interactive platform where players may smash through the roof of and loot what&#8217;s inside.\u00a0<em>Destiny\u00a0<\/em>is more suited for action-packed platforming, making it more fun to explore than\u00a0<em>Division.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Division 2 | Better Co-Op<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Division-2-Behind-Cover.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Destiny\u00a0<\/em>and the\u00a0<em>Division\u00a0<\/em>are both <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/free-pc-games-co-op-metacritic\/\">very dynamic co-op games<\/a>. Both games allow for up to a four-player party in missions. The main difference is\u00a0<em>Destiny\u00a0<\/em>allows players to select from three different classes, each with three different specializations of their own;\u00a0while\u00a0the\u00a0<em>Division\u00a0<\/em>allows players to select two abilities from a selection of eight different gadgets, each having three or four different modifications. Different gadgets can be used in combination with each other for powerful effects. Hence, the\u00a0<em>Division\u00a0<\/em>allows for more varied builds and specializations, but also more dynamic chemistry, thereby creating a more\u00a0changing party.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Destiny 2 | Better Combat<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/destiny-2-arcstrider-staff.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>If playing the\u00a0<em>Division\u00a0<\/em>feels like controlling the\u00a0<em>Men In Black\u00a0<\/em>or any spy movie with fancy tech, then playing\u00a0<em>Destiny\u00a0<\/em>feels like playing as the\u00a0<em>Avengers.\u00a0<\/em>While the\u00a0<em>Division\u00a0<\/em>allows for more builds and gadget combinations,\u00a0<em>Destiny 2&#8217;s<\/em>\u00a0classes perform much differently\u00a0from the other. Combat in\u00a0<em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>also caters to more action-loving enthusiasts with its high-impact energy attacks, devastating special abilities, and better overall mobility. This results in faster-paced harder-hitting\u00a0fighting that outdoes\u00a0<em>Division&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>tactical military approach. On top of this, <em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>has more varied weapon choices than\u00a0<em>Division 2. <\/em>Weapons of <em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>range from the typical SMGs and sniper rifles to swords and plasma cannons.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Division 2 |\u00a0Better PvP<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Division-2-Shooting-a-Juggernaut-Bombsuit.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Destiny 2&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>PvP has two modes. In Crucible, players battle other guardians in various solo or team-based formats, while in Gambit, teams race to finish a set of objectives. However, other players may also fight for this loot and take it for themselves. That&#8217;s just the surface as there&#8217;s even a rogue system where when a player kills other players, it triggers a high-stakes manhunt for the rogue player.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Destiny 2 | More Customization Options<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Destiny-2-Purple-Skinned-Alien-Character-Customization.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The option alone to play as non-humans bags\u00a0<em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/rpgs-best-customization-options\/\">win in the character customization department<\/a>. While the\u00a0<em>Division 2\u00a0<\/em>allows players to tailor the gender, facial features, and clothing of their agent,\u00a0<em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>lets players customize the race of their guardian, and then decide on race-specific features such as antennae, glowing eyes, modular parts, paint, decals, down to the color of each feature. There can be an African-American male defending the galaxy, a typical grey alien, or an Autobot Transformer. The possibilities are endless with\u00a0<em>Destiny 2&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>customization options.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Division 2 | Better Enemies<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Division-2-Washington-DC-Rebels.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>While\u00a0<em>Destiny 2\u00a0<\/em>has more varied enemy types given the galactic setting of the game,\u00a0<em>Division 2&#8217;s <\/em>enemies are more challenging to battle against\u00a0since players may chance upon higher-level areas early on in the game. Even when battling same-level enemies, they feel more like actual threats than papier-m\u00e2ch\u00e9. The way\u00a0<em>Division 2\u00a0<\/em>enemies react to damage is something else too. Though they may be bullet sponges, their jerks and fumbles make bullets feel more impactful. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/dark-souls-3-hardest-boss-fights-ranked\">With regards to bosses<\/a>, however, each game has taken the full potential of their setting to maximize their bosses&#8217; abilities and complexity.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Destiny 2 | Better Story<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Destiny-2-Ghaul-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Division 2&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>story is all right with its generic military and rebel characters.\u00a0<em>Destiny 2&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>complex characters on the other hand are miles ahead of that of the\u00a0<em>Division&#8217;s.\u00a0<\/em>Players get a bright inspiring companion that isn&#8217;t as obnoxious as\u00a0Link&#8217;s from\u00a0<em>The Legend Of Zelda,\u00a0<\/em>some valiant heroes here and there, and towering villains with voices deeper than a black hole.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-class-best\">Destiny 2: Which Class Is Best For You?<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As for the narrative, the plot revolves around a high-stakes conflict that could mean the end of a civilization and race, plunging the entire planet into darkness. Meanwhile,\u00a0<em>Division 2&#8217;s <\/em>story\u00a0plays out like any other\u00a0disease-ridden\u00a0setting.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Division 2 | Less Grindy<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Division-2-Three-Backs-Turned.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>With\u00a0<em>Division 2&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>open-world seamlessly stitched together with its various activities, events, hidden loot, and missions, its gameplay always feels fresh each time players load into the game. Its varied level design and labyrinth-like areas never let players feel the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/borderlands-3-best-ways-to-grind\/\">monotony of repetition<\/a>. There are side-content, random enemy encounters, and collectibles scattered all throughout the world, making leveling up fun and engaging.
