Franchise developer Santa Monica Studio is keeping old and new fans in mind with a number of updates coming to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/god-of-war\"><em>God of War<\/em><\/a>\u00a0on Sony&#8217;s next-gen console.<\/p>\n<p><em>God of War<\/em> released in 2018 to widespread critical acclaim. With the announcement of the PlayStation 5&#8217;s backward compatibility feature, Santa Monica Studio&#8217;s hit title was guaranteed to make the list. In addition, the reveal of an upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-of-war-ps5-ragnarok-teaser-trailer\/\">sequel in <em>God of War Ragnarok<\/em> coming next year<\/a> further ensured the series&#8217; longevity.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-war-ragnarok-sequel-ps5-original-game-new-features-bosses-dualsense\/\">God of War Ragnarok Sequel on PS5 Has High Expectations<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Still, questions remain surrounding the exact details of the\u00a0carry-over. On its official Twitter account, Santa Monica Studio offered details on what players can expect.\u00a0On top of backwards compatibility, players will have the option to transfer their <em>God of War\u00a0<\/em>save games to PS5. Further, the Favor Performance option introduced for the PS4 Pro will be available at launch on the PS5, which will enable the game to achieve 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution. At launch, the game targeted 30 FPS on standard and slim PS4s. With the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/people-surprised-ps5-power-digital-foundry\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PS5&#8217;s improved hardware<\/a>, the game should be able to maintain that level of performance more consistently.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SonySantaMonica\/status\/1320766939736625152\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Lastly, Santa Monica Studio added an extra surprise in a follow-up tweet. The developer indicated that\u00a0<em>God of War 3 Remastered<\/em> will also have save transfer capability. In terms of story, players will be able to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-of-wars-cycle-of-patricide-ragnarok-kratos-zeus-atreus\/\">conclude Kratos&#8217; Greek arc<\/a>, and then continue on into the Norse arc. If all goes as planned, the PS5 will have three full\u00a0<em>God of War<\/em> games available by the end of 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes on the heels of other flagship PS4 titles making the transition to next-gen easier. For example,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/spider-man-remastered-ps5-upgrade-details\/\"><em>Marvel&#8217;s Spider-Man<\/em> is getting a PS5 remaster<\/a>, including new suits and performance upgrades. The follow-up to Peter Parker&#8217;s web-slinging adventure,\u00a0<em>Spider-Man: Miles Morales<\/em>, is releasing simultaneously on PS4 and PS5. Coupled with the news that over 99 percent of the PS4&#8217;s library will be backwards compatible, next-generation systems are poised to have\u00a0very robust launch libraries.<\/p>\n<p>Even though cross-generation releases became a norm earlier in the decade, it has never been particularly easy.
