It became an instant PS1 classic and a land many remember fondly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-best-combat-systems-ranked\/\">10 Best Combat Systems In Final Fantasy Games, Ranked<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Counting <i>Final Fantasy Tactics \u2013<\/i>\u00a0but not the PSP re-release \u2013 there are eight games that take place in Ivalice:\u00a0the original\u00a0<i>Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Final Fantasy XII, FF XII: Revenant Wings, Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, Crystal Defenders, <\/i>and<i>\u00a0Tactics S<\/i>. While\u00a0<i>Final Fantasy XIV<\/i> has references to the Ivalice Alliance, and even a raid, it does not specifically take place in Ivalice. Notes aside, take a\u00a0look\u00a0into some of the finer details about these eight releases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>The Timeline<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/1-Final-Fantasy-Tactics.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">There is a bit of secrecy between when these games take place. Based on some notes from Square Enix, and\u00a0deduction from fans, the timeline seems as follows: The first game would be <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-square-enix-games-ranked-time-locations\/\"><i>Final Fantasy XII<\/i><\/a>, followed by its sequel <i>Revenant Wings<\/i>. After that, the two <i>Final Fantasy Tactics Advance<\/i> games are somewhere close in proximity since the races are all still alive. For this same reason, it\u2019s believed <i>Final Fantasy Tactics S<\/i> and <i>Crystal Defenders<\/i>\u00a0take place around here, too. <i>Final Fantasy Tactics<\/i> takes place way in the future with the extinction\u00a0&amp; crumbling of Ivalice and <i>Vagrant Story<\/i> would be set even further\u00a0than that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>The Canceled Ivalice<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/2-Final-Fantasy-Fortress.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">Game studio Grin was working on an Ivalice game codenamed <em>Fortress<\/em>. It was going to be a darker tale with action combat in an open-world around the PS3 and Xbox 360 era. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-games-deserve-remake-treatment-never-touched\/\">Final Fantasy: 5 Games That Deserve The Remake Treatment (&amp; 5 That Should Never Be Touched)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">Eventually the studio ran out of money and had troubles communicating with Square Enix, which led to this game being canceled along with Grin shutting down altogether. Check out every piece of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unseen64.net\/2009\/09\/08\/fortress-final-fantasy-xbox-360-ps3-cancelled\/\">content left on Unseen64<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Final Fantasy Tactics S<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/3-Final-Fantasy-Tactics-S.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-does-better-kingdom-hearts\/\"><i>Final Fantasy Tactics S<\/i><\/a>\u00a0may be a title that eludes fans. It was a mobile spin-off that was exclusive to Japan. It launched in 2013 and was shutdown a year later. <em>Tactics S<\/em>\u00a0had similar gameplay to the <em>Tactics Advance\u00a0<\/em>games\u00a0with\u00a0returning classes and thirteen unique ones. These include Air Samurai, Musician, Mini Fighter, Dancer, Vampire, Mail Knight, Sky Pirate, Onion Knight, Oracle, Judgemaster, Piscodemon, Destroyer, and Druid.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Final Fantasy Tactics Cut Content<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/4-Final-Fantasy-Tactics-Cut-Content.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">There is quite a bit of cut content still locked away in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/most-expensive-final-fantasy-items-ever-ranked\/\"><i>Final Fantasy Tactics<\/i><\/a>. Warjilis Trade City is only used in a cutscene but it might have been used for a battle at one point since it is fully fleshed out map. There are also\u00a0several cut\u00a0commands, pieces of text, songs, and even jobs. One can even listen <em>Final Fantasy Tactics<\/em>&#8216; cut<a href=\"https:\/\/tcrf.net\/Final_Fantasy_Tactics\">\u00a0music here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Final Fantasy Tactics Redesigns\u00a0<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/5-Final-Fantasy-Tactics-Redesigns.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">There is other hidden stuff about <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-worst-games-metacritic\/\"><i>Final Fantasy Tactics<\/i><\/a> one can\u2019t find besides digging in the game\u2019s code. Meliadoul Tengille, Goffard Gaffgarion, and Isilud Tengille all have alternate colors for them in artwork. Bigger than that is\u00a0Alma in a white mage costume with dark hair. This could suggest at one point she may have been a bigger party member.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>The Square Enix Merger<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/6-Final-Fantasy-Tactics-Advance.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">Square and Enix, after being longtime rivals in the RPG market, merged officially in 2003.\u00a0<i>Final Fantasy X-2<\/i> and <i>Final Fantasy Tactics Advance<\/i> were released, and in-turn developed, before this merger occurred.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/every-final-fantasy-and-other-rpg-squaresoft-released-snes\/\">Every Final Fantasy (&amp; Other RPGs) Squaresoft Released On The SNES<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">In Japan,\u00a0both games were released as Square titles. However,\u00a0due to the fact that the Square Enix brand had already been established in the United States and Europe,\u00a0<em>Final Fantasy X-2\u00a0<\/em>&amp;\u00a0<em>Final Fantasy Tactics Advance\u00a0<\/em>reflected the company&#8217;s name post-merger.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Cut Content<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/7-Final-Fantasy-Tactics-A2-Grimoire-of-the-Rift.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">Although released on the Nintendo DS,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-biggest-gameplay-change-every-main-game\/\"><em>Final<\/em><i> Fantasy Tactics A2<\/i><\/a>\u00a0began development on the Game Boy Advance.\u00a0Interestingly, there&#8217;s evidence\u00a0that the\u00a0Transmuter job was cut from the Nu Mou. It sort of still appears in the game through items and abilities, albeit not as a proper job.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Final Fantasy XII Early Concepts<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/8-Final-Fantasy-XII-Early-Concepts.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\"><i><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-moogle-fan-art\/\">Final Fantasy XII\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>concept art\u00a0also shows evidence of changed content.\u00a0Balthier&#8217;s first draft is noticeably nerdier while\u00a0Basch looks prettier.\u00a0Larger than those two, the ghost-like\u00a0Occuria that appears in the game could have looked like the Nu Mou. This\u00a0might actually be the case\u00a0if this was their form before transcending into gods.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Final Fantasy XII Manga\u00a0<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/9-Final-Fantasy-XII-Manga.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">On the subject of artwork, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-best-npcs-ranked\/\"><i>Final Fantasy XII<\/i><\/a> got a manga adaptation. There were five volumes that more or less followed\u00a0the story of the game. Some things were altered to better fit the manga&#8217;s structure &amp; pacing, along with adding in more backstory for the\u00a0main cast through flashbacks. Unfortunately, the\u00a0<em>Final Fantasy XII\u00a0<\/em>manga never released outside of Japan on top of ultimately being canceled.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Vagrant Story\u2019s Co-Op<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/10-Vagrant-Story.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">Yasumi Matsuno,\u00a0<em>Vagrant Story<\/em>&#8216;s\u00a0director, talked about the game in a related piece\u00a0titled\u00a0<i>Vagrant Story Preview Edition E3 2000 Exclusive Monster Edition<\/i>. In it,\u00a0Matsuno said that about half the story was cut out. A lengthy portion would have followed Ashley in his early years. In the main game, he\u00a0would have been\u00a0accompanied by AI partners that may have even featured co-op.
