Since being released on December 7th<\/sup> 2018, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em> (SSBU) has been non-stop. Not only is it the best-selling fighting game of all time, having sold over 20 million copies, but the sheer amount of additional content that\u2019s been added since its launch has been incredible. Eight new DLC characters have been periodically inserted into the game since January 2019, with plans for four more, as well as countless new costumes, game modes, stages, spirits, and songs (it\u2019s been joked that SSBU has so many classic video game songs included, it\u2019s essentially a glorified jukebox).<\/p>\n

But, with all this hard work, it\u2019s likely that the developers and playable characters need time to unwind as well \u2013 it\u2019s tiring work smashing it out all day, and what\u2019s more restorative than watching some TV? It\u2019s been widely reported that Masahiro Sakurai, the game\u2019s director, rarely takes vacations, so it\u2019s predictable that the characters in SSBU probably don\u2019t as well. Hence, some good television at the end of the day is a must \u2013 here are the TV shows these Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em> characters probably watch.<\/p>\n

Rosalina is a galaxy-hopping protector of the cosmos and surrogate mother to the non-verbal, powerful Lumas, so it\u2019s very likely she sees echoes of herself in Mando and Baby Yoda<\/a>. Although she does less traveling nowadays and spends more of her time playing tennis or go-karting, watching The Mandalorian<\/em> must remind her of her swashbuckling youth and all the adventures she got up to. With season two of that Disney+ series just around the corner<\/a>, it\u2019s likely Rosalina and Luma are getting pretty excited.<\/p>\n

Speaking of recent releases, Luigi has definitely spent the last few weeks binging The Haunting of Bly Manor<\/em> on Netflix<\/a> \u2013 he\u2019s a plumber who spends an inordinate amount of time hunting down ghosts in haunted hotels, so Mike Flanagan\u2019s series is probably a dream come true. A location-based ghost story in which viewers are invited to find hidden spirits in the background of shots? It was like it was made for him. Like many viewers, however, Luigi was probably disappointed with the narrative bloating of the second season, even if he found the change in setting refreshing.<\/p>\n

The most recent additions to the SSBU roster, Steve and Alex come not only the best-selling video game of all time, but also one that actively encourages the player to get creative with a bunch of square blocks<\/a>. As a result, they\u2019ve developed a deep affinity and appreciation for when people can use pieces in surprising and imaginative ways and for Fox\u2019s LEGO Masters<\/em>. The show, which sees teams of two building\u00a0Lego\u00a0projects from a vast array of bricks<\/a>\u00a0and parts to meet both creative and practical goals, is constantly on in Steve and Alex\u2019s Minecraft home \u2013 it\u2019s just a bit of nice background noise.<\/p>\n

Ryu and Ken are two old-school fighters who have found themselves in an unfamiliar and new Smash environment \u2013 no one was \u2018wave dashing\u2019 in Street Fighter II<\/em>. As a result, they feel a deep kinship with Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) from Netflix\u2019s Cobra Kai<\/em><\/a>, someone who has equally found his old-school karate ways quasi-outdated in the modern world. Watching Lawrence beat the odds and bring popularity to the classic forms of martial arts must\u2019ve been very inspiring for Ryu and Ken, giving the Street Fighter<\/em> duo hope that they can perform similarly in SSBU.<\/p>\n

Look, Mario is a basic guy<\/a>. He doesn\u2019t have much of a personality, and all he wants is to watch the good guys beat up the bad guys and get the girl every week, it\u2019s really that simple. For Mario, Chicago P.D.<\/em> is just reliable, solid entertainment, and the perfect way to spend an evening. In fact, the moustachioed Italian plumber is a massive fan of everything Dick Wolf puts out (Law & Order<\/em>, Chicago Fire<\/em>, FBI<\/em>), and is eagerly waiting for the new Law & Order: Hate Crimes<\/em> series to debut on NBC\u2019s Peacock streaming service.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0many ways Incineroar is the Joe Exotic of the Smash world \u2013 both of them are brutish cads, both of them are obsessed with tigers, and both of them are wildly entertaining to watch, much to the chagrin of everyone around them. When Incineroar was first announced for Smash, the fans hated him without getting to know him, so when Incineroar saw Exotic get a similar treatment on Tiger King<\/em><\/a>, he must\u2019ve thought \u201cat last, a like-minded soul!\u201d and binged the entire series.<\/p>\n

As anyone who has spent time with Wario can attest, the man loves superheroes. As his alter-ego \u2018Wario Man\u2019 (yes, that is the level of creatively being offered), Wario beats up baddies with his garlic-infused powers, most notably seen in his \u2018Final Smash\u2019 in SSBU. Therefore, it\u2019s logical to predict that Wario is a massive fan of all the DC shows available on the CW Network<\/a> (The Flash<\/em>, Supergirl<\/em> etc.). In fact, it\u2019s Wario\u2019s dream to one day cameo in a cross-over event; if Ezra Miller can do it, why can\u2019t he?<\/p>\n

Much like Steven from Steven Universe<\/em><\/a>, Kirby is a transforming pink ball who loves to eat and spread positivity, even when he\u2019s decimating waves of opponents. Kirby himself also once had an eponymous cartoon tv show, only increasing the parallels between the two \u2013 if Steven Universe was to ever come to Smash Bros., it\u2019s likely Kirby would be the first one to welcome him, arms wide.<\/p>\n

As soon as anyone sees Snake\u2019s different skin alts for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em>, they realize that this is a guy who loves to take fashion risks (a leopard-print body suit? Fierce.). So naturally, the former spy\/special operative\/mercenary<\/a> loves nothing more than watching a team of five impeccably dressed men help other men improve their fashion mojo. Simply put, Snake is a big fan of Netflix\u2019s Queer Eye<\/em> and Fab Five, and can\u2019t wait for the new tear-jerking season to premiere.<\/p>\n
