Independent game developers have a hard climb to the top. In order to make a break in the industry, most will need to go through a publishing company with a respected name. There are plenty of these publishers out there, but one of the more underrated publishing companies out there is London-based Curve Digital.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2005 by Jason Perkins, the company was initially just a game developer themselves. Their first game, Fluidity<\/em>, came out on WiiWare in 2010. But in 2013, the vision of the company changed as they began publishing a plethora of titles. Many have gone on to have quite a bit of critical success.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>The Flame In The Flood (76)<\/h2>\n

Many of Curve Digital’s published games have come from up-and-coming game developers. This includes The Molasses Flood, who created Curve Digital-published The Flame in the Flood<\/em><\/a>. This roguelike stars a girl named Scout and her dog. She is on a journey traveling the\u00a0waters of a post-apocalyptic United States. Players can use the raft to ride the river and explore the islands that were once the thriving country. Players will need to keep track of Scout’s needs while also avoiding the dangers that lie ahead.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Peaky Blinders: Mastermind (76)<\/h2>\n

Adapting a TV show into a video game is no easy task, but FuturLab seems to have done a decent job with it. Based on the hit BBC show, Peaky Blinders: Mastermind<\/em><\/a> is a puzzle-adventure game that pulls characters from its source material. Players take on the role of\u00a0multiple members of the Shelby family’s mafia and learn about a plot\u00a0that looks to take them all down. Players can take control of Tommy, Arthur, Polly, and more to solve puzzles at as quick a pace as possible.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Hue (79)<\/h2>\n

It’s easy to tell when game developers have poured their heart and soul into a game, especially\u00a0one with a story that tugs on the heartstrings. Fiddlesticks Games’ Hue<\/em><\/a> is a puzzle adventure game about a little boy looking for his missing mom.<\/p>\n

The world around the boy is black and white but the boy has the ability to change the color in which he views the world. This helps him overcome obstacles and get to the next area. As the game progresses, players learn about more colors that will help reunite this family.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Autonauts (80)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Simulation games<\/a> can be a lot of fun, especially if players can create something from scratch. From the developer Denki, Autonauts: Age of Enlightenment<\/em> has players\u00a0on a journey to bring the work of automation to colonies around the world. Players will start from scratch chopping wood and mining stone, but will eventually reach a point where robots can take this role from them in order for them to pursue bigger upgrades. Players also need to take care of their colonists and give them jobs to keep society booming.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Stealth\u00a0Bastard\u00a0(80)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

This is one of the few Curve Digital games that they have self-published. Stealth Bastard<\/em> is marketed as a stealth game<\/a> that is fast-paced, unlike other games in the genre. The 2D platformer has 80 levels spread across eight worlds. Players are initially given with only a few tools to work with early on but will later have an arsenal fit for the stealthiest individuals out there. The game also includes its own level editor, with players being able to upload their difficult levels for anyone to try out.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Rogue Aces (80)<\/h2>\n

Air combat can be a ton of fun in video games and Rogue Aces<\/em> may be among the most intense.\u00a0This 2D arcade-like<\/a> game has players take to the skies and face off against The Baron and his army after they’ve taken over the players’ home islands. Each battle is procedurally generated, giving players a different experience each time they play. They also have one life and only three planes to work with in each level. There is also a multiplayer mode where up to 4 players can battle it out in an air confrontation. The creators, Infinite State Games, have gone on to self-publish a deluxe edition.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>10 Second Ninja X (82)<\/h2>\n

Four Circle Interactive created a game with an appropriate title considering the circumstances. In 10 Second Ninja X<\/em>, players are a ninja that has been kidnapped by Captain Greatbeard, who has also trapped the ninja’s animal friends inside of his robots.<\/p>\n

The goal is to destroy these robots in each level in 10 seconds or less. There are 100 levels over 11 game worlds. The game will also rate the player depending on how well they do. There are also “marathon modes,” testing players to see how fast<\/a> they can do levels in a row. This game is a sequel to the original 10 Second Ninja<\/em>.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones\u00a0(82)<\/h2>\n

Another one of Curve Digital’s self-published games. Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones<\/em> is the 2014 sequel to the 2011 game Stealth Bastard<\/em>. This time, the player takes on the role of a clone inside a cloning facility. Similar to the goggles-wearing protagonist in the first game, players will need to figure out how to escape each level in the most stealthy way<\/a> possible. What’s different\u00a0compared to the previous installment\u00a0is that the game’s 60 levels are connected in a Metroidvania-style world. The game also revolves around rescuing clones and testing out new gadgets.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>For The King (87)<\/h2>\n

Fans of classic strategy games can tell IronOak Games was very inspired by the classic games of the genre when it made For The King<\/em>. The role-playing game combines tabletop and roguelike elements as players set out on a quest to avenge their king who was murdered by an unknown assassin. Players can choose to play by themselves or with friends either locally or through online services. Each playthrough is different as each map and its quests are randomly generated. There is also a turn-based battle system inspired by\u00a0classic JRPGs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>The Swapper (92)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Curve Digital didn’t initially help Facepalm Games make The Swapper<\/em>, but they did help port the game to consoles where it found even more success. This sidescrolling puzzle game<\/a> is set in a sci-fi world in the middle of space. Players control\u00a0a scavenger who discovers a mysterious device known as “The Swapper.” This allows the scavenger to make clones of herself and switch her consciousness between the clones to control them. This mechanic will help the player solve puzzles and advance the deep narrative.<\/p>\n
