Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/i><\/b> is one of the most well-known game franchises today, but that doesn\u2019t mean Ubisoft has\u00a0been without error\u00a0when making the <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/span><\/i><\/a> games. Ubisoft has recently made headlines for some executives believing that \u201cwomen don\u2019t sell\u201d in video games, and that\u2019s why the franchise\u2019s most recent titles, <\/span>Origins<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Odyssey<\/span><\/i>, had their narratives changed to move away from having main female protagonists.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a way to counteract and challenge how Ubisoft has treated its female assassin characters, Kulpreet Virdi founded the Assassin\u2019s Creed Sisterhood, a group dedicated to empowering women throughout the <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/span><\/i> community. In an interview with Game Rant, Virdi talked about <\/span>all things Assassin\u2019s Creed Sisterhood<\/span><\/a>\u00a0from its origins to what it hopes to accomplish in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Assassin\u2019s Creed Sisterhood is meant to be a safe space for women in the <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/span><\/i> community, especially those who want to get involved but didn\u2019t know where to start. The Sisterhood has two initiatives\u2014create a \u201cwarm and inviting environment\u201d for women gamers in the <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/span><\/i> community, and to celebrate the female characters found so far in the <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed <\/span><\/i>franchise.<\/span><\/p>\n

The AC Sisterhood is a \u201cplay on words\u201d based on the <\/span>Brotherhood, a term commonly used throughout the <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/span><\/i> series<\/span><\/a>. Ultimately, the Sisterhood aims to unite fans of <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/span><\/i> while also calling attention to the way the games can be improved. For example, there’s having a main female protagonist in a main <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/span><\/i> game. <\/span>Odyssey<\/span><\/i> provided a choice for players between Kassandra and Alexios, but there has still yet to be an only female main assassin installment in the series. It should also be noted that Alexios was only an option because of Ubisoft’s preconceptions on the idea that “women don’t sell.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, the Sisterhood is not meant to be an attack on Ubisoft either. Instead, it\u2019s meant to hold the company accountable and show it that players expect more in its treatment of not only female characters, but employees as well. In fact, many devs within Ubisoft have come out in support of the movement by changing their headers and profile pictures, not to mention the inclusion of the <\/span>AC Sisterhood logo as a tattoo in <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed: Valhalla<\/span><\/i><\/a>. Virdi said that seeing some devs support the movement \u201creally, really makes all the difficulties that we\u2019ve had with the Sisterhood and the trolls and things like that kind of worth it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
