After the recent high-profile announcement that Minecraft<\/em> would be represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em>, could one of the most popular games of the last five years crossover into the fighting game too? Epic Games creative director Donald Mustard has hinted that Fortnite<\/em><\/strong> could be the next game to feature in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em> on the Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n

There is never any shortage of suggestions from the online community for who Masahiro Sakurai should add into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate <\/em>next. Just hours before the announcement of the latest character to join the game, Steve from Minecraft<\/em>, there were rumors that Crash Bandicoot would join the roster.<\/a> But if rumors are to believed, it looks like the battle royale game could be next to join the Smash<\/em> roster.<\/p>\n

Mustard and Geoff Keighley of The Game Awards held a Zoom call where select fans of Fortnite<\/a> <\/em>were permitted to ask questions about the game, including what Mustard and Epic had planned for the battle royale title. While Epic managed to keep the Zoom call under wraps initially, naturally some details from the call have now leaked, and it looks like players can expect the next big Fortnite <\/em>announcement on December 10 at The Game Awards.<\/p>\n

When asked during the call if Fortnite<\/em> was going to join the Super Smash Bros.<\/em> universe, Donald Mustard simply stated that he cannot comment on the matter. Of all the recent collaborations that Epic has secured for Fortnite<\/em>, from the current Marvel<\/em> season to the recently announced Ghostbusters<\/em> crossover<\/a>, getting into Nintendo\u2019s Super Smash Bros.<\/em> would be a huge get for the game.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that these are just rumors so far, but with\u00a0Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em> having sold just shy of 20 million copies worldwide as of June 30, 2020, and with the recent reveal of Steve from Minecraft<\/em> literally breaking Twitter for a\u00a0short time, it would make sense that Epic was interested in getting Fortnite<\/em> into the fighting game. Although that addition of Steve did create a rather unique problem, with a recent update required to patch out Steve\u2019s questionable NSFW Smash<\/em> celebration<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With The Game Awards over a month away, attention in Fortnite<\/em> will be on the annual Halloween event, Fortnitemares, for the next week. With spooky challenges including taking control of possessed vehicles<\/a> and riding around on witches\u2019 brooms, the Fortnitemares event will have to keep fans occupied while they wait for any news about a possible crossover with Nintendo and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em>.<\/p>\n
