The hype for Destiny 2: Beyond Light\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>is growing ever stronger as the DLC for Bungie’s looter-shooter gets closer to its November 10 release date. Fans are eager to get their hands on the new Stasis subclasses for their Guardians, which will allow Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks to wield time-manipulating ice powers. As the first brand new element to make its way into the series since the original Destiny<\/a>,<\/em> players can look forward to some major changes in what to expect from combat in both PvE and the Crucible.<\/p>\n

But Stasis may not be the only new Darkness-based\u00a0power in Destiny<\/em>‘s future. In an interview with Twitch’s official gaming channel, game director Luke Smith suggested the possibility that more subclasses built around new powers and abilities could be in store for Guardians over time.<\/p>\n

“We’re introducing the first of the Darkness subclasses,” Smith said in the Twitch interview. “There’s always going to be new things that we’re gonna add to expansion sets. I’m not going to commit us in this meeting to what we’re doing next, but we know what’s coming, and we’re excited to get to work on it.”<\/p>\n

While Smith kept details to a minimum, the phrasing of his statement does enough to suggest that the Stasis subclasses<\/a> won’t be the last new set of powers Destiny<\/em> fans can look forward to using over the next few years. Previous comments from Smith and the studio itself have suggested that the future of Guardians in Destiny<\/em> will have a deeper focus on customizing abilities and class traits, bringing back some of the possibilities for unique character builds that were present in the original game. Adding additional paths for characters to go down would go nicely with those plans.<\/p>\n

It’ll likely be a while before fans know more about the additional subclasses. As revealed over the summer, Bungie’s plan for the next few years of Destiny 2<\/em> content involves Beyond Light<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and two more expansion packs, currently titled The Witch Queen<\/em> and Lightfall.\u00a0<\/em>Players could be waiting until 2021 or 2022 to truly see what Smith is indirectly referencing here, but the mention of more subclasses at all is enough to garner plenty of excitement for Guardians.<\/p>\n

Bungie also released the full launch trailer for Beyond Light<\/em><\/a> yesterday, highlighting story elements like the return of fan-favorite Destiny<\/em> 1 characters like the Exo Stranger and Variks the Loyal, primary villain Eramis and her Stasis-infused Fallen army, and one more tease of the infamous Pyramid ships. With six years of\u00a0Destiny<\/em>\u00a0so far and at least two more upcoming expansions to go, the studio seems intent on finally answering questions fans have had for a long time, and making good on the narrative potential the series has always had. We’ll know for sure when Beyond Light<\/em> releases next month.<\/p>\n

Destiny 2<\/em><\/strong> is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One. Destiny 2: Beyond Light<\/em><\/strong> is set to launch on November 10th.<\/p>\n
