Those looking forward to playing Hitman 3<\/em><\/strong> in VR on PS5 are facing\u00a0a confusing situation, as it appears using PSVR with the next-gen version of the game\u00a0may not be possible.<\/p>\n

It has already been confirmed that the PS5 will be compatible with most PS4 games and accessories, including the PSVR, though the PS4 camera needed for PSVR will require a free adapter from Sony<\/a>. Sony also confirmed that the PS4 accessories will only work with PS4 games on the PS5, meaning players cannot use a DualShock 4 to play the upcoming remake of Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em>, for example.<\/p>\n

Apparently, that also means that PS4-era PSVR will not work with PS5 versions of games that would normally support VR, like the upcoming Hitman 3<\/a><\/em>. That also extends to the next-gen version of No Man\u2019s Sky.<\/em><\/p>\n

The confusing caveat though is that both PS4 copies of Hitman 3 <\/em>and No Man\u2019s Sky: Next Generation<\/em> will receive free upgrades to the PS5 versions<\/a>. It is unclear if users will have to deny a PS5-version update to their game in order to play in VR on PS5, or if the PS5 itself will simply switch to the PS4 version of the game when VR is activated. Also confusing is whether or not someone who buys a forthcoming retail release of\u00a0Hitman 3<\/em>\u00a0on PS5 will be able to play in VR at all, or whether they\u00a0will need a downgrade patch in order to play.<\/p>\n

Hopefully,\u00a0none of this will be as confusing as it sounds, and the PS5 will be able switch between versions of the game at will, akin to how games like the upcoming Spider-Man: Miles Morales\u00a0<\/em>has an alternate \u201cperformance mode\u201d that will up the framerate to 60 FPS <\/a>while lowering some visuals like ray-tracing.<\/p>\n

There has been no confirmation either way from any developers, publishers, or Sony. Hopefully playing Hitman 3 <\/em>in PSVR on PS5 will be easy to do, as it looks like playing a Hitman <\/em>game in VR could be an incredibly unique experience<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What this means for the future of PS5 is interesting. This could potentially mean there will be no new PS5-native games to support PSVR until Sony releases a kind of PSVR 2. Recent comments from PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan suggest that such a thing is possible, but that it might not happen for some time<\/a>.<\/p>\n
