And recently Gunn has opened up about his experience of being fired then rehired in a new interview.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to Empire magazine, Gunn revealed the circumstances surrounding his re-hiring.\u00a0&#8220;It was a happy ending&#8221; said Gunn, &#8220;but it was also scary, because I actually got the call from Alan Horn [Walt Disney Studios chairman] long before it was announced: it happened literally the day after I agreed to do <em>The Suicide Squad<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/guardian-galaxys-james-gunn-favorite-game\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guardian of the Galaxy&#8217;s James Gunn Reveals His All-Time Favorite Game<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>And when he first informed Kevin Feige, the man behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), that he was working on a DC movie, Feige asked if it was <em>Superman<\/em>, which was a possibility apparently. Feige&#8217;s reaction was thankfully supportive, telling Gunn\u00a0\u201cPlease, please make a good movie. Just\u2026 make a great movie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wUn05hdkhjM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Originally Gunn was fired by Disney in 2018 over offensive posts on his Twitter account were brought to light by right-wing activist Michael Cernovich in a move that was <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/dave-bautista-disney-troll-video-james-gunn\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">heavily criticized by cast members<\/a>\u00a0and fans. But after apologizing for his past tweets and a campaign to reinstate him, his re-hiring was announced the year after.<\/p>\n<p>After having worked with the Big Two, Marvel and DC, Gunn has spoken about the perceived rivalry between the publishers.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/james-gunn-marvel-vs-dc\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;There isn&#8217;t enmity behind-the-scenes like there is in the fan community&#8221;<\/a> he said, adding, &#8220;I think by far the majority of folks in the fan community are accepting, cool people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When asked\u00a0whether his upcoming <em>The Suicide Squad<\/em>\u00a0is a sequel to David Ayer&#8217;s 2016 film or a soft reboot, Gunn answered, \u201cUm, it\u2019s its own thing. It does not contradict the first movie, I don\u2019t think.
