Some ARPG fans have stuck with Blizzard’s\u00a0Diablo 2<\/em> this entire time while some have migrated to\u00a0Path of Exile<\/em><\/a>, a free-to-play spiritual successor to the acclaimed title.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0Path of Exile\u00a0<\/em>has a massive amount of content and frequent updates, burnout and boredom can still happen when completing the Atlas or delving for the dozenth time. Fortunately, there\u00a0is a solid selection of ARPG alternatives that\u00a0Path of Exile\u00a0<\/em>fans should try out while they wait for a new league or want a change of pace. Here are ten great\u00a0titles that\u00a0Path of Exile\u00a0<\/em>fans should check out.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Victor Vran ARPG<\/h2>\n

ARPGs that focus on cooperative play are a rare sight in today’s market, especially ones that allow split-screen co-op<\/a>.\u00a0Victor Vran ARPG\u00a0<\/em>is one of the few ARPGs that fill this niche currently. While it doesn’t have any new tricks up its sleeve for the genre,\u00a0Victor Vran’s\u00a0<\/em>ability to be played in split-screen co-op on PC and console makes for a great afternoon of dungeon-delving with friends.<\/p>\n

While a massive departure from the first two games,\u00a0Diablo 3\u00a0<\/em>is a great casual ARPG for those that want an alternative to\u00a0Path of Exile<\/em>. Instead of managing dozens of progression systems,\u00a0players\u00a0can focus\u00a0mostly on\u00a0their gear<\/a> and Greater Rifts. It might not\u00a0have the immense depth\u00a0Path of Exile\u00a0<\/em>has, yet the game’s lack of meta-progression systems and intricate gearing make it a fantastic ARPG to play during the last month of a\u00a0Path of Exile\u00a0<\/em>league or whenever a player experiences burnout.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Torchlight 2<\/h2>\n

Those looking for a casual ARPG to play with friends should give\u00a0Torchlight 2\u00a0<\/em>a try. This game has a colorful art style that compliments the gory combat quite well, interesting item modifiers, and a whole suite of mods to install. Its character build variety is certainly lacking with only four classes to choose from, but the plethora of mods available for\u00a0Torchlight 2\u00a0<\/em>more than makes up for that.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Warframe<\/h2>\n

Warframe\u00a0<\/em>is not a dungeon crawler nor is it an isometric RPG.\u00a0Warframe\u00a0<\/em>is a free-to-play third-person looter shooter<\/a> that has a solid amount of similarities to\u00a0Path of Exile<\/em>. Buildcrafting is a core part of\u00a0Warframe’s\u00a0<\/em>gameplay rhythm due to the game’s massive roster of Mods, effectively passives that can alter an item’s behavior.<\/p>\n

Each\u00a0Warframe, effectively a player’s class, offers a suite of abilities that focus on a certain playstyle. Players can turn entire armies to particle dust with Nova, freeze time with Limbo, or punch enemies into oblivion with Atlas. The game lacks an in-depth endgame system, but the amount of content\u00a0Warframe\u00a0<\/em>has on offer is worth experiencing during the\u00a0end of a\u00a0Path of Exile\u00a0<\/em>league. The game is also free, so players can try this fast-paced looter shooter for no cost.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Titan Quest<\/h2>\n

Titan Quest\u00a0<\/em>is a great alternative to\u00a0Path of Exile\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Diablo 2\u00a0<\/em>if players want a fast ARPG to play. In\u00a0Titan Quest<\/em>, players get to battle\u00a0notorious creatures and gods from Greek mythology as they complete the campaign.<\/p>\n

Last Epoch\u00a0<\/em>is an early-access title that is shaping up to be a fantastic ARPG. Compared to\u00a0other games in the genre,\u00a0Last Epoch\u00a0<\/em>differentiates itself with its skill tree system. Every skill in\u00a0Last Epoch\u00a0<\/em>has its own augment tree that allows for in-depth customization without compromising itemization or adding unnecessary bloat. Those that want a hybrid between\u00a0Diablo 3’s<\/em>\u00a0gameplay\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Path of Exile’s<\/em>\u00a0customization\u00a0<\/em>should give\u00a0Last Epoch\u00a0<\/em>a chance.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Lost Ark<\/h2>\n

Lost Ark\u00a0<\/em>takes the addictive hack-n-slash loot elements of an ARPG and sets them in an MMO setting<\/a>. While that might be a red flag for some,\u00a0Lost Ark\u00a0<\/em>manages to get the core fundamentals of ARPGs right.<\/p>\n

Players choose from one of six classes that have multiple advanced classes, each focusing on specific playstyles. Besides the game’s satisfying abilities,\u00a0Lost Ark\u00a0<\/em>also sprinkles a few MMO classics into the ARPG genre such as raids and multi-man dungeons. Unfortunately, the game is not available to western markets at this time, but players can try the game out by using a VPN.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Diablo 2<\/h2>\n

Diablo 2\u00a0<\/em>is the closest game to\u00a0Path of Exile\u00a0<\/em>that one can find. Grinding Gear Games took heavy inspiration from\u00a0Diablo 2\u00a0<\/em>when developing\u00a0PoE<\/em>, hence why both games share so many systems.<\/p>\n

Players can choose one of six classes as they carve their way through hordes of creatures. Just like\u00a0PoE<\/em>, gear plays a major role in developing builds in\u00a0Diablo 2<\/em><\/a>. Mods also exist for this ARPG classic if players have gotten bored of the game’s core systems. “Path of Diablo<\/a>” is a great mod for those that want a new suite of skills and abilities based on\u00a0Path of Exile<\/em>.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Grim Dawn<\/h2>\n

For\u00a0Path of Exile\u00a0<\/em>players that tire of the game’s clear speed meta,\u00a0Grim Dawn\u00a0<\/em>might be a breath of fresh air<\/a>. This game is much slower than\u00a0Path of Exile\u00a0<\/em>without compromising build diversity.<\/p>\n

Grim Dawn\u00a0<\/em>lets players choose between one of seven Masteries\u2014nine with both major expansions\u2014that each have unique skills and passives. However, players get to choose a second Mastery at level 12. Those that like\u00a0Path of Exile’s\u00a0<\/em>passive skill forest might enjoy\u00a0Grim Dawn’s\u00a0<\/em>Devotion\u00a0system, which groups build stats and unique passive effects together as constellations to make build crafting much less intimidating. Combined with the game’s itemization,\u00a0Grim Dawn\u00a0<\/em>is a great offline alternative to\u00a0Path of Exile.<\/em><\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Hades<\/h2>\n

Roguelikes have seen a surge in popularity over the past few years due to their accelerated progression curves and addictive gameplay.\u00a0On paper,\u00a0Hades’\u00a0<\/em>blend of roguelike systems and ARPG combat are antithetical to the genre’s focus on gearing and character building.<\/p>\n

In practice, it is one of the most addictive and thrilling ARPGs one can buy.\u00a0Hades\u00a0<\/em>does a brilliant job of incorporating randomized dungeon delves with meaningful character building<\/a>. Enemies spill out gold and build-enabling items that let players continue their run. When a player dies, they get to make small, permanent upgrades that will make their next run slightly easier. Packed with a satisfying story and beautiful art style,\u00a0Hades\u00a0<\/em>is a must-play for ARPG fans.<\/p>\n
