Undoubtedly their most notable\u00a0creation is the <em>Halo<\/em> series. The series, in particular, <em>Halo: Combat Evolved\u00a0<\/em>helped Microsoft&#8217;s Xbox become a worthy competitor to Sony&#8217;s PlayStation and Nintendo, despite its late arrival to the gaming industry.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/halo-franchise-levels-missions-hardest\/\">The 10 Most Difficult Levels In The Halo Franchise, Ranked<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>To only associate Bungie with <em>Halo<\/em> would be a great disservice to the company though. Bungie has also been responsible for\u00a0multiple classic Mac OS games, as well as <em>Destiny<\/em>. The first and second <em>Destiny<\/em> games<em>\u00a0<\/em>have been great successes for Bungie.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-titles-easiest-hardest\/\"><em>Destiny 2<\/em>\u00a0still has an active online player base today<\/a> and is set to release on Xbox One Series X|S and PS5, despite releasing back in 2017.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">18 <\/span>Oni (73)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/oni-bungie.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The bottom game scoring a respectable 73 is a testament to Bungie&#8217;s ability to consistently release enjoyable games. <em>Oni<\/em>\u00a0was released in January 2001 on the PlayStation 2 and PC, before coming to Mac OS later in the year.<\/p>\n<p><em>Oni <\/em>is a third-person Beat-Em&#8217;-Up that takes place in a futuristic dystopian landscape. The game was praised for its enjoyable combat mechanics but criticized for lackluster graphics and weak plot.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">17 <\/span>Destiny (76)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/destiny-bungie.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Destiny<\/em> was Bungie&#8217;s first console game to release after the companies iconic <em>Halo<\/em> series. Because of this, <em>Destiny<\/em> had a heap of expectations on its shoulders before its 2014 release.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the game didn&#8217;t reach the lofty heights of the <em>Halo<\/em> series. It was praised for\u00a0featuring the feel of <em>Halo<\/em>&#8216;s well designed and fun online gameplay but was criticized for its underwhelming story.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">16 <\/span>Halo 3: ODST (83)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/halo-3-odst.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Halo 3: ODST<\/em> may not have been the <em>Halo 4<\/em> that fans had been eagerly waiting for, but it still had the pressure of living up to the legendary trilogy that came before it.<\/p>\n<p>The 2009 game had many skeptics due to its full $60 price, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/halo-campaign-first-person-shooter\/\">especially considering its reduced campaign length<\/a>.\u00a0Despite this, <em>Halo 3: ODST\u00a0<\/em>had excellent sales figures and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/gadgets-and-tech\/top-selling-video-games-of-2009-family-friendly-titles-most-popular-5548881.html\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">was one of the year&#8217;s best selling games.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">15 <\/span>Destiny 2 (87)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/destiny-2.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Destiny 2<\/em> released three years after its predecessor, receiving considerably more favorable reviews. The game was praised for its offering of open-world exploration, improved combat, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-subclasses-best-for-you-playstyle-most-fun-supers-abilities\/\">implementation of RPG mechanics<\/a>. Furthermore, <em>Destiny 2<\/em>\u00a0won multiple awards, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamecriticsawards.com\/2017winners.html\">Best PC Game by Game Critics Awards 2017.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite this praise, the game has proven to be very divisive. Its 87 Metacritic score is in stark contrast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/game\/xbox-one\/destiny-2\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to its current 4.4 user score.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">14 <\/span>Myth II: Soulblighter (88)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/myth-2.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Myth II: Soulblighter\u00a0<\/em>is a unique real-time tactics game as it excludes one of the genres most key mechanics. Base building and army recruitment don&#8217;t feature in the game. Instead, players begin with pre-determined bases and units, allowing them to put all of their focus\u00a0on combat.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/halo-games-ranked-worst-best-metacritic\/\">Every Halo Game, Ranked (According To Metacritic)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The game was released in late 1998 on Mac OS, Linux, and Windows PC.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">13 <\/span>Crimson: Steam Pirates (88)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/crimson-pirates.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>After releasing their final <em>Halo<\/em> game, <em>Halo: Reach<\/em>, the gaming industry was curious to see how Bungie would follow their iconic series.\u00a0Anyone who claims that they\u00a0predicted an iPad strategy game would be the companies next title, is almost certainly fibbing.<\/p>\n<p><em>Crimson: Steam Pirates\u00a0<\/em>is a real-time strategy game that gave players a Steampunk crew\u00a0and ship to control as they battle other ships and complete campaign objectives.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">12 <\/span>Myth: The Fallen Lords (91)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/myth-1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The first entry into the <em>Myth<\/em> series released on Windows and Mac in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>Like many of the games, <em>Myth: The Fallen Lords<\/em> won numerous awards shortly after its release. The most notable being PC Gamer&#8217;s Strategy Game of the Year award.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly to its successor, base building is not a feature of <em>The Fallen Lords<\/em>. The game was\u00a0notable for being extremely difficult,\u00a0with many players reportedly give up after only the first couple of levels.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">11 <\/span>Halo: Reach (91)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/halo-reach.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Halo: Reach<\/em> was Bungie&#8217;s final <em>Halo<\/em> game before the\u00a0torch was passed to 343 Industries. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/halo-series-villains-best-ranked\/\">The fifth game in the <em>Halo<\/em> series<\/a> was a prequel to the first game, <em>Halo: Combat Evolved<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The prequel was a fitting way for Bungie to bow out of their legendary series. The game itself was praised for having one of the series&#8217; best campaigns and stories, as well as\u00a0its excellent\u00a0range of customization options and tools available to players.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Halo 3 (94)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/halo-3.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Halo 3<\/em>\u00a0was released at an important time for Microsoft. PlayStation&#8217;s disastrous PS3 roll-out had handed Microsoft&#8217;s Xbox 360 an audience of gamers on a silver platter. However, a year had passed since the console&#8217;s release, and the PS3 was finding its feet.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft responded\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/halo-3-every-main-weapon-ranked\/\">in style with the modern classic <em>Halo 3<\/em><\/a>. The game contributed to a spike in console sales, as <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/halo-multiplayer-maps-ranked\/\">the game&#8217;s online multiplayer in particular offered hours of fun<\/a> with friends that consumers didn&#8217;t want to miss out on.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Halo 2 (95)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/halo-2.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Bungie didn&#8217;t disappoint when they followed up on one of the greatest FPS games ever made, with <em>Halo 2\u00a0<\/em>almost surpassing the original game in Metacritic score.<\/p>\n<p><em>Halo 2<\/em>\u00a0didn&#8217;t try to fix what wasn&#8217;t broken and kept its core gameplay and\u00a0single-player experience similar to its predecessor. The game is notable for one addition though, the online\u00a0multiplayer mode that <em>Halo<\/em> games are synonymous with first appeared in <em>Halo 2. <\/em>It\u00a0was the most popular Xbox Live game for just under two years after its release.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Halo: Combat Evolved (97)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/halo-1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Microsoft has tried and failed on many occasions to replicate other products. Such as Zune and Bing\u00a0being nowhere near as successful as the iPod and Google. The Xbox may well have been another of these failures if Bungie didn&#8217;t introduce the world to Master Chief.<\/p>\n<p><em>Halo: Combat Evolved<\/em> is one of the best launch titles ever released. Not just because it&#8217;s an incredible game, but because it immediately put Xbox on the gaming industry map, with one of the best single-player campaigns in FPS history.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Gnop! (N\/A)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/gnop-mac.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The first of many Bungie games that aren&#8217;t scored on Metacritic, but are certainly worth mentioning anyway. The following games are ranked in order of release.<\/p>\n<p><em>Gnop!<\/em> was Bungie&#8217;s first-ever game, and it&#8217;s probably for the best that it wasn&#8217;t scored on Metacritic. The game was released in 1990, the same year as <em>Super Mario World<\/em> and <em>Mega Man 3<\/em>,\u00a0but is essentially just a\u00a0clone of<em> Pong<\/em> (<em>Gnop!<\/em>\u00a0backward).<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Operation: Desert Storm (N\/A)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/operation-desert-storm.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>1991s\u00a0<em>Operation: Desert Storm\u00a0<\/em>was a Mac OS exclusive, and the first game that Bungie commercially released.<\/p>\n<p><em>Operation: Desert Strom<\/em> is a top-down shooter set in the Middle East. Similarly to <em>Gnop!<\/em>, the game was significantly outdated upon its 1991 release compared to other games from the same year.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Minotaur: The Labyrinths of Crete (N\/A)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/minotaur-mac.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Another Mac OS exclusive, <em>Minotaur: The Labyrinths of Crete<\/em> is an RPG adventure, far more ambitious than Bungie&#8217;s previous titles.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/halo-master-chief-best-memorable-quotes\/\">Halo: Master Chief&#8217;s 10 Most Memorable Quotes<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, the game featured a multiplayer mode.\u00a0A rarity in 1992, especially for a company as small as Bungie was at the time.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Pathways Into Darkness (N\/A)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pathways-into-darkways.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Bungie&#8217;s first FPS title certainly isn&#8217;t as iconic as many of its successors but is notable for being the game that put Bungie on the gaming industry map.<\/p>\n<p>The game\u00a0combined action FPS gameplay with puzzle-solving and gave Bungie the resources to elevate their status far further with\u00a0<em>Marathon.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Marathon (N\/A)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/marathon-bungie.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>For most gamers, <em>Marathon<\/em> will be the earliest Bungie title that they recognize.<\/p>\n<p>The first-person shooter&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/doom-halo-series-comparison\/\">gameplay was reminiscent of <em>Doom<\/em><\/a>, as was the case with many FPS titles at the time. Like <em>Doom<\/em>,<em> Marathon<\/em> was praised for its action gameplay and deathmatch multiplayer. It differentiated itself from <em>Doom<\/em> though with its fleshed-out story.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Marathon 2: Durandal (N\/A)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/marathon-2-durandal.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Bungie followed the original <em>Marathon<\/em> with a sequel just under a year later in 1995. The game was set almost two decades after its predecessor and added innovative new modes to its multiplayer. Including the unique and bluntly titled Kill The Man With The Ball.<\/p>\n<p>The game re-released on the Xbox 360 Arcade in 2007. This re-release\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/game\/xbox-360\/marathon-durandal\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">was reviewed on Metacritic and received a score of 62.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Marathon Infinity (N\/A)<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/marathon-infinity.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Bungie&#8217;s final <em>Marathon<\/em> game played it safe and change little from its predecessor, with much of the single-player and multiplayer mechanics remaining the same.<\/p>\n<p>However, <em>Marathon Infinity\u00a0<\/em>did have one notable addition<em>. <\/em>The game allowed players to create their own levels using Forge and Anvil technology.
