Now,\u00a0Dr. Antonio J. Webb\u00a0has assessed the real-life chances of surviving memorable physical injuries\u00a0in films\u00a0including <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/anne-hathaway-harley-quinn-catwoman\/\"><em>The Dark Knight Rises<\/em><\/a>, <em>The Amazing Spider-Man<\/em>, and Marvel Studios&#8217;<em> Doctor Strange<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Webb&#8217;s experience includes completing combined neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery fellowships at Texas Back Institute. Furthermore, he served as a medic and licensed vocational nurse with the US Air Force for eight\u00a0years\u00a0before practicing in\u00a0San Antonio, Texas.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tom-holland-spider-man-3-cast-start-filming\/\">Tom Holland Announces Marvel&#8217;s Spider-Man 3 is Set To Start Filming<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In Christopher Nolan&#8217;s <em>The Dark Knight Rises<\/em>, Batman manages to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/supervillains-deserve-a-second-chance\/\">track down Bane in the sewers of Gotham City<\/a> only to be defeated when the villain breaks\u00a0the Caped Crusader&#8217;s\u00a0back in a scenario Dr. Webb describes as &#8220;pretty unlikely&#8221; to result in significant injury. After being incarcerated in an underground prison, Batman receives treatment for his injury from a fellow inmate who tries to push\u00a0his vertebrae back in place with the help of a rope. While Dr. Webb notes that the technique is similar to a practice called the wide-strap, in which a patient&#8217;s spine is pulled, that is not usually the route taken in real-life. &#8220;When we see a bone, especially a spine, sticking out of someone&#8217;s body, that patient most likely will not survive,&#8221; said Dr. Webb before giving the injury as survival rating of 1\/10.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m6YyIM5Zowo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Afterward, Dr. Webb examines the death of Gwen Stacy in Sony&#8217;s <em>The Amazing Spider-Man 2<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/spider-man-gwen-stacy-death-physics-kakalios-goblin\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Much like the comics<\/a>, Spider-Man attempts to stop Stacy from plummeting to her death by catching her with his web just seconds before she hits the ground. According to Dr. Webb, the injury, as depicted in the film, merits a 0\/10\u00a0survival rating. &#8220;The chance of someone snapping their back like this and surviving\u00a0is pretty slim,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The major vessels\u00a0in your body [&#8230;], these things are pretty fragile and when there&#8217;s a lot of force applied to the\u00a0body it can rip these vessels pretty easily, especially from a height like this. When her body is snapped, that can actually tear and cause injury to the spinal cord and the nerves that are in the back as well.&#8221; However, Dr. Webb does concede that Spider-Man had few viable options to save Stacy at this point.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Webb also assesses the car accident that severely damaged Stephen Strange&#8217;s hands\u00a0in Marvel Studios&#8217;\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mcu-news-doctor-strange-spider-man-3\/\">Doctor Strange<\/a>. <\/em>While Webb observed some mistakes made, including a failure to immobilize Strange before removing him from the damaged vehicle, he ultimately concludes that there is a 6\/10 chance of surviving the crash.<\/p>\n<p>The extensive list of films covered by Dr. Webb is not limited to superhero blockbusters.
