Many are instances that you wouldn\u2019t even realize were important, so let\u2019s see just what these moments are and how they impacted the story at large.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>The Timing Of Faye&#8217;s Death<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/god-of-war-faye-on-pyre.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether everything that happened during the events of the game was fated or not remains <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-war-storylines-unresolved\/\">one of the unresolved questions from God of War.<\/a> In any case, Faye\u2019s death lifted the spell that protected herself and her family from Odin and their position being exposed was what brought Baldur to Krato\u2019s doorstep.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Had her death not happened at a time when Atreus was close to unlocking his god powers, the boy and his father would not have come into the path of Freya and the issues with her son, and this dynamic is how Ragnarok\u2019s earliest seeds were planted.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Kratos Finding Poseidon&#8217;s Trident<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/poseidon-trident-god-of-war-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While 2018\u2019s God of War is considered<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/open-world-games-best-side-quests-ranked\/\"> a game with the best side missions<\/a>, one of the similar levels in the original God of War was of the highest quality as well. This involved getting Poseidon\u2019s Trident, an item that allowed Kratos to breathe underwater with no possibility of dying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As seen at the end of God of War III, Kratos had to swim across the tsunami-ridden world of Greece to escape. This meant he did so due to Poseidon\u2019s Trident allowing him to safely breathe his way underwater and into the Nordic lands, thus kickstarting his time there and his eventual role in Ragnarok.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Kratos Seeing The Vision Of Zeus<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/zeus-god-of-war-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kratos remained conflicted over his role in destroying the Greek world throughout God of War. However, he didn\u2019t seem to decide on taking an active role in changing the cycle of violence until he saw the vision of Zeus from his past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was due to this that he killed Baldur, as he didn\u2019t want him to kill his mother and continue the trend of children taking the lives of their parents. Of course, Baldur\u2019s death prompted not only Freya to swear her revenge but also led Thor to Kratos\u2019 doorstep, which will be seen in God of War Ragnarok.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Atreus&#8217; Killing Of Modi<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/atreus-modi-god-of-war-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-of-war-five-atreus\/\">things from Atreus we want to see in the next game.<\/a> The most appealing possibility is seeing his powers expanded, which started to be unleashed when he killed Modi. It\u2019s also through the death of his son that Thor was prompted into confronting Atreus and Kratos.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>The Gods Refusing To Take Away Kratos&#8217; Nightmares<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Kratos-God-of-War.v1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This one should go without saying, as Kratos\u2019 contempt toward the gods was what motivated him to eventually kill them. It still needs to be mentioned, what with Kratos\u2019 eventual arrival in the Nordic realms only being possible due to his need to distance himself from his past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Had the gods simply removed Kratos\u2019 nightmares, he would have been content in his role as the God of War and never wreaked havoc. It was his intention to control the rage &#8212; the result of his nightmares &#8212; that Kratos married Faye and thus sealed his role in starting Ragnarok.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Zeus Falling For Kratos&#8217; Bluff<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Kratos-vs-Doom-7-Kratos-vs-Zeus.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The overly dramatic mannerisms of the characters<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-war-hilarious-memes-true-playstation-fans-understand-kratos\/\"> have garnered many memes at their expense.<\/a> Zeus was guilty of furthering this trope, having fallen for Kratos\u2019 bluff during their clash at the end of God of War II. This took place when he almost had Kratos beat with his lightning, only for Kratos to claim he was conceding defeat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kratos\u2019 bluff worked and he was able to turn the tables on Zeus. Had the latter not fallen for this ruse, he would have ended Kratos then and there. Zeus claimed Kratos\u2019 torment would last forever, meaning he would never have escaped the underworld to ever go to the Nordic realms.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Kratos Deciding Not To Tell Atreus About The Future<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/God-Of-War-Kratos-Atreus.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It remains to be seen whether this will be added to<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-war-worst-decisions-kratos\/\"> the list of worst decisions made by Kratos<\/a>. As it happened, he saw a depiction of the future when they arrived in Jotunheim. This prediction showed Kratos dying while in the company of Atreus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Had Kratos told his son what he saw, there\u2019s every chance the fated Ragnarok would change since Atreus\u2019 intentions of revenge against the Nordic gods would never come to pass. It would also mean that Thor\u2019s arrival in the future would not have been a surprise.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Thor Punching\u00a0J\u00f6rmungandr Into The Past<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Kratos-facing-Jormungandr.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The world serpent is set to join <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-of-war-kratos-strongest-allies\/\">Kratos as one of his strongest allies.<\/a> The reason for this is the fact that he\u2019s supposed to be Loki\u2019s son, making him Kratos\u2019 grandson. J\u00f6rmungandr was sent to the past by Thor, a result of the God of Thunder punching him with all his might.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/10-best-sandbox-games-time\/\">10 Best Sandbox Games Of All Time<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Had Thor not chosen this particular move, J\u00f6rmungandr would never have been in position to help the heroes as he did during the events of God of War. This will lead to J\u00f6rmungandr\u2019s assistance of his father and grandfather during Ragnarok, as he\u2019s also been confirmed to fight Thor again.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Freya Placing The Curse On Baldur<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/god-of-war-baldur-dead.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order for Kratos to kill Baldur, the latter needed to have been attempting to finish his own mother. This was the result of Baldur\u2019s intense hatred of Freya due to her spell of removing all of his senses, driving him insane, as a result.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Had Freya decided against placing this spell &#8212; which, ironically, was supposed to protect him &#8212; Baldur wouldn\u2019t have allied himself with Odin and Thor. It\u2019s due to his death that the latter two gods have turned their attention to Krato and Atreus, setting up Loki\u2019s actions against them in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Pandora&#8217;s Plea Of Hope To Kratos<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/kRATOS-Pandora.v1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kratos would have died by Zeus\u2019 hand at the end of God of War III had he not experienced the vision of Pandora telling him about the importance of hope. It was due to this vision that he gathered the strength to overpower Zeus, also unlocking the power of Hope.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Had Pandora not made her plea, Kratos would have been slain and Atreus\u2019 birth would have been an impossibility.
