Since its reveal at Microsoft’s E3 2019 Press Conference, From Software’s latest game, Elden Ring<\/em><\/strong>, has gone mysteriously silent much to the dismay of fans waiting for any sort of news. Speculation and rumors have largely been the only source of any sort of update, with many believing the game had simply been canceled. However, the smallest of updates from From Software have reignited hopes<\/a> for more news soon as the studio confirmed that the game is still in development. However, the latest bit of news may further excite those waiting for new details.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview, Xbox boss Phil Spencer was briefly asked about Elden Ring<\/em><\/a>. Shockingly, Spencer had a lot to say on the subject, even going as far as saying he’s seen and played quite a bit. Naturally, he went on to say he’s not allowed to go into too much detail about Hidetaka Miyazaki’s upcoming title but he managed to add a bit more hype to the game by saying that Elden Ring is “clearly the most ambitious game that he’s done.”<\/p>\n

Going a bit further, Spencer went on to add, “I mean, I love his games, but seeing some of the gameplay mechanics stuff that he’s tackling, he and the team are tackling this time, of the setting, working with another creator in terms of story. I love it.” While he doesn’t outright say it, the other creator mentioned in this quote is more than likely George R.R. Martin, best selling author and creator of Game of Thrones, who helped create the story for Elden Ring<\/em><\/a> with\u00a0Miyazaki’s team.<\/p>\n

As an aside, Spencer recalls that\u00a0Miyazaki typically leaves the room during his play sessions. While he doesn’t exactly know why, he believes it is because he’s a “bad player” even though he really enjoys these games. Once\u00a0Miyazaki returns, they sit down and discuss his experiences and opinions after the session. Overall, Spencer notes that\u00a0Miyazaki is “so passionate about what he does. It’s one of the things I just love about getting to work with him on some of these games and seeing them come to our platform.”<\/p>\n

While fans will no doubt enjoy hearing a bit of good news on the upcoming game, it unfortunately doesn’t answer any lingering questions including what platforms its going to release on and when. Earlier this summer, a potential legal issue with the game’s trademark process<\/a> came to light, potentially revealing part of the reason why there’s been a lengthy lack of news. The application process has hit a number of snags and rejections since it was filed back in 2019, possibly due to a dispute, with further delays and a lot of waiting. Naturally, without a confirmed trademark, marketing needs to be put on hold, which could explain the lack of news.<\/p>\n
