Its cel-shaded graphics, made popular by\u00a0<em>The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker<\/em>, gave it a suitably comic-like appearance that set it apart from most other FPS games at the time. While it received decent reviews at launch, poor sales nipped the potential for sequels in the bud. Aside from a mobile side-scroller and hidden object game, the series has mostly flown under the radar.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/demons-souls-playstation-ps5-remake-unknown-development-trivia\/\">Demon&#8217;s Souls: 10 Things You Didn&#8217;t Know About the Development of the PlayStation 5 Remake<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Still, it seems the game had enough of a following for\u00a0someone to pick up the torch. The remake, also named\u00a0<em>XIII<\/em>, comes courtesy of PlayMagic, a small studio based in Malta. According to its website, the studio has contributed to a variety of well-known series like\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/halo-tv-series-back-filming\/\">Halo<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Call of Duty<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>XIII<\/em> appears to be the studio&#8217;s first full project and it shows. Fans are not happy for a number of reasons, including the graphics. The remake drops most of the cel-shaded graphics in favor of a more realistic style which many have compared to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-xp-xtravaganza-week-2-challenges-season-4\/\"><em>Fortnite<\/em><\/a>. If that were the only issue, the game might have been received better, but as Twitter user SirCrackerBulb highlights in a video, the game is rife with technical issues. From objects popping in and out, to weird AI behavior, the issues are\u00a0abundant.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SirCrackerBulb\/status\/1326223652254314496\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Remakes and remasters have boomed in popularity this generation. Successful remakes, like\u00a0<em>Resident Evil\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-remake-part-2-when-episodic-information-drought\/\"><em>Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/em><\/a>, stay true to the original&#8217;s spirit while modernizing mechanics. Gamers looking to revisit old favorites likely won&#8217;t tolerate excessive bugs or other issues, and that goes double for a game that lacks the fanbase of the aforementioned remakes, or that of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/demon-souls-remake-before-you-buy\/\">upcoming\u00a0<em>Demon&#8217;s Souls<\/em> remake<\/a>. A poor effort is likely to do more harm than good to the IP if it was already obscure.<\/p>\n<p>Granted, PlayMagic probably doesn&#8217;t have the same resources as Square Enix, Capcom, and others. Still, many of the issues highlighted in the video seem like\u00a0they should have been caught by quality assurance. Further,\u00a0PlayMagic plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/xiii-remake-switch-delay-2021\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">release\u00a0<em>XIII<\/em> for the Switch<\/a>\u00a0some time next year.
