It\u2019s a difficult decision to make since open-world games generally last so long<\/a> that you become attached to the protagonist, meaning there\u2019s not much chance you\u2019ll play again as the character you didn\u2019t originally choose. The game’s rich and extensive world paired with an epic story to intrigue players. It offers unique experiences based on who players choose to play as: Kassandra or Alexios. For repeat players or new players alike, who should they play as in Odyssey? Thankfully, Leila Hassan returns and she doesn’t have a sibling stolen by a cult gumming up her research.<\/em><\/p>\n

14 <\/span>Kassandra: She’s The Canonical Hero<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

In case you were wondering who really is the real protagonist of the game, it’s Kassandra.\u00a0Though the game provides\u00a0no clarification within the story over this, other media in the world has. The novelization of <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed Odyssey<\/span><\/i>, where the adventures we take part in the game are written down in print, follows Kassandra instead of Alexios.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here it\u2019s confirmed that Kassandra was the older sibling and that Alexios went onto become Deimos. Now that\u00a0fans know that, it\u2019ll greatly take away the fun of playing as Alexios since everything\u00a0from his perspective isn\u2019t actually what happened. <\/span>Odyssey<\/span><\/i> is really Kassandra\u2019s story that\u00a0players experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

13 <\/span>Alexios: He Looks More Like An Assassin’s Creed Hero<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Previous protagonists in the series\u00a0like Ezio and Altair appear more similarly to\u00a0Alexios\u2019s build and style. He is simply more reminiscent of the classic <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/span><\/i> hero. He can\u00a0even be compared to Connor or Arno,\u00a0making fans feel\u00a0as if they\u2019re truly playing an <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/span><\/i> game.<\/span><\/p>\n

Odyssey<\/span><\/i> already\u00a0removed much\u00a0of the \u201cassassin\u201d portion of the fun since there\u2019s no actual creed during the story. But\u00a0playing as Alexios will at least\u00a0help fans suspend their disbelief — especially long-time fans.<\/span><\/p>\n

12 <\/span>Kassandra:\u00a0Better Voice Acting<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

There\u2019s no question about it – Kassandra is a hundred times a more engaging character to follow because of the level of her voice acting eclipsing Alexios’. The direction for Alexios sounds clunky, so he comes across as a bit of a meathead who can\u2019t think for himself. Essentially, he feels like\u00a0he\u2019s all brute and no brains.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Voice actress Melissanthi Mahut brings Kassandra to life beautifully. She\u00a0has the right conviction where it\u2019s required and doses of empathy here and there.\u00a0Even if players just play the intro to the game as Alexios and then Kassandra, they’ll see a difference.<\/span><\/p>\n

11 <\/span>Alexios: Better Chemistry With Phoibe<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Little Phoibe endeared herself to fans the moment they met her. Though she and Kassandra have a little and big sister vibe, fans might prefer her relationship with Alexios.\u00a0It can play better than Kassandra\u2019s in the sense that the two play off each other and their different experiences as different genders.\u00a0<\/span>Fans who have played the game will remember\u00a0just how important the relationship between these characters is. <\/span><\/p>\n

One can examine from a more psychological perspective, too. Consider Phoibe\u00a0as an allegory for the protagonist’s need to do right by a child. This helps them make up for the lack of their own childhood. Kassandra comes across more like family, while Alexios can be both fatherly and the friend Phoibe wants.<\/span><\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Kassandra: She Complements The Supporting Characters<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Other than with Phoibe, though, Kassandra\u2019s chemistry with every other character exceeds that of Alexios\u2019. In the matter of Myrrine, Kassandra comes across as the genuine child in search of her mother.\u00a0Alexios\u00a0seems better suited as Deimos who has to be convinced to let go of his brutal ways.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Then there are characters like Sokrates, Herodotos, and Barnabas. They all seem natural with Kassandra where their dynamic is that of unlikely friends coming together to help each other. In this regard, Alexios just looks like hired muscle for the aforementioned characters<\/a> rather than their true friend.<\/span><\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Alexios: Smack Talk Fits The Character<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Since there\u2019s not much depth that shines out of Alexios, it makes sense that smack talk comes across better\u00a0from him. Scenes that require sadness and conflict aren\u2019t good on Alexios, but he excels at\u00a0both brutality and sharp quips.<\/span><\/p>\n

If players don\u2019t want to invest\u00a0themselves in the relationship between the Misthios and friends, pick Alexios.\u00a0His sarcastic jabs at the supporting characters\u2019 expense are good enough for simple amusement. It also makes it easier to play a morally questionable character.<\/span><\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Kassandra: Going Against Deimos Feels Natural<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As\u00a0mentioned above, Alexios fits Deimos\u2019s description better. He has that rage-induced look, and his\u00a0inferior voice acting fits Deimos\u2019s one-dimensional speaking manner.<\/span><\/p>\n

This complements Kassandra\u2019s character\u00a0— a well-rounded foil for Deimos. In this way, the two have a good dynamic as it becomes clear that Kassandra is the one\u00a0fans are meant to root for.\u00a0Her characterization has enough variety for her to be able to bring Deimos back from the dark side.<\/span><\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Alexios: He’s Historically Accurate<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

For those who want\u00a0to stick as close to history as previous <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/span><\/i> protagonists largely have, then Alexios is the way to go.\u00a0After all, he fits the stereotypical description of a Spartan warrior. In fact, women didn\u2019t go to war in Sparta and were largely the leaders of the household when men were out in battles.<\/span><\/p>\n

This makes Kassandra come across as not entirely genuine since her role in leading troops to war within the game is fictionalized. On the other hand, someone like Alexios could have been historically in charge of the Spartan force. <\/span><\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Kassandra: Armor Looks Appropriate On Her<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Since the game’s release, there have been numerous armor updates including special sets. At launch, however, the game didn’t opt for different armors for either protagonist.\u00a0Players were\u00a0left with making Alexios wear armor that is clearly meant for female use. Since armor of a higher level is the ideal choice,\u00a0players couldn’t do anything other than make Alexios look ridiculous in such garb.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kassandra didn’t have any of those problems, and instead looks\u00a0awesome in practically every armor she dons.\u00a0This issue has subsequently been ameliorated with the added armor sets and other updates.<\/span><\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Alexios: Fighting Sequences Suit Him<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As was the case with Jacob and Evie<\/a> in <\/span>Assassin\u2019s Creed Syndicate<\/span><\/i>, the physical appearance of both protagonists leads to them having one feature that suits them. In the case of Kassandra, she fits the part where\u00a0players need\u00a0to be stealthy and quick. In contrast, Alexios shines in the sequences that carry\u00a0direct and bloody action.<\/span><\/p>\n

Assassin\u2019s Creed Odyssey<\/span><\/i> is intended to motivate the player to throw out the stealth practice of the previous games.\u00a0So players may have more fun using Alexios to mow down scores of enemies and feel part of the Ancient Greek battlefield.<\/span><\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Kassandra: Be A\u00a0Romantic Goober<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As mentioned, Kassandra cannot establish extremely intimate relationships with anyone. However, she comes quite close in a few cases throughout the game. One of the first instances is Odessa with whom she can share a brief, but intense experience.<\/p>\n

But the most romantic interaction may come with Roxana and their Romeo and Juliet-esque affection amid the\u00a0Battle of 100 Hands. Though Alexios can be a “bad boy”, Kassandra can play the role of a gooey romantic better.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Alexios: Be A Heartbreaker<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

There are no real dedicated romances in\u00a0Odyssey<\/em> as found in Bioware games like Dragon Age<\/em>. But that doesn’t mean the player can’t knock boots with anyone who happens to express interest.<\/p>\n

Both characters can have plenty of one-time experiences, as it were, but Kassandra seems to found more intimate interactions with some of them such as Odessa and Roxana. Alexios, on the other hand, plays the role of dashing\u00a0charmer quite well. Think of him as Tuxedo Mask except that, when he disappears, he never, ever returns.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Kassandra: She Doesn’t Take Any Guff<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Though both characters are intimidating, something about Kassandra just says “Don’t push it bub.” She and Alexios have similar builds, but, because Kassandra is a woman, her bulk seems more imposing — especially in certain armor types. Players divine infinite glee watching her shakedown the likes of Markos, Alkibiades, and anyone else foolish enough to get on her bad side.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Alexios: He’s A Bit More Sassy<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

It is unclear throughout the game which body movements are motion captured and which are procedurally generated. But, on the whole, Alexios has more sarcastic body language as in the image above.<\/p>\n

Fans can hear the passive-aggressive sarcasm dripping from the slightly tilted head and raised eyebrows. Kassandra, though beautiful and powerful, doesn’t always share this penchant for sass.<\/p>\n
