While the fans of the SoulsBorne series\u00a0await the release of FromSoftware’s next big action RPG,\u00a0Elden Ring<\/em>, there’s another Dark Souls-<\/em>inspired game<\/a> in development that\u00a0may\u00a0catch attention. From the minds of developer duo Miso Vukcevic and Mirko Stanic,\u00a0Bleak Faith: Forsaken\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>is the next game that seems to build on the legacy of the\u00a0Souls\u00a0<\/em>series. To tease the game, Vukcevic and Stanic have released a 12-minute long gameplay trailer that offers a look at its dark and unforgiving combat, as the player character traverses its damp and desolated open-world brimming with horrifying enemies at every turn.<\/p>\n

Dark Souls<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>games have\u00a0grown in popularity over the last few years,\u00a0with six critically acclaimed titles either coming directly from From Software or having been inspired by the studio’s work. Starting off as a new kind of action-RPG with 2009’s Demon’s Souls<\/em> that boasted punishing difficulty, intricate level design, environmental storytelling, and an asynchronous multiplayer mode, the\u00a0SoulsBorne\u00a0<\/em>franchise has come a long way in terms of visual fidelity and combat,\u00a0all while\u00a0preserving its staple elements.<\/p>\n

The series has also inspired many developers to implement similar elements in their games, some of which have been really successful. Titles such as Nioh<\/em>, The Surge<\/em>, and\u00a0Mortal Shell<\/em>\u00a0have all contributed something new to the genre, and Bleak Faith: Forsaken<\/em> seems to be following that route.<\/p>\n

The new gameplay footage shows the player character slashing their way through desolate, narrow corridors using a one-handed sword or a bow for an instant kill. While twisted pathways are\u00a0prominent\u00a0in Souls games,\u00a0Bleak Faith: Forsaken<\/em> spices things up by adding large open spaces to traverse. While there’s no word on the game’s premise, the new footage gives off a medieval and steampunk vibe thanks to the design of the land, the humongous watcher-like enemy similar to Dishonored<\/em><\/a>‘s Tallboy, the game’s interface, and the sound design.<\/p>\n
