It\u2019s easy to get distracted by a flashy presentation and not realize the content being consumed is really quite bad. Indeed, nowhere is this truer than the realm of television.<\/p>\n<p>For as long as the small screen has existed, underwhelming and disappointing programs have managed to garner a decent level of popularity <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/spider-man-miles-morales-into-the-spider-verse-boss-logic\/\">by having a mesmerizing \u2018cover\u2019<\/a> \u2013 a great theme tune. Who cares if the show itself is bland or misogynistic or full of plot holes or nonsensical? <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-witcher-toss-a-coin-to-your-witcher-jaskier-song-four-marks\/\">A catchy earworm<\/a>\u00a0isn&#8217;t enough to save a show by itself, of course, but it can trick viewers into believing they&#8217;re watching something better than they really are. A good theme song will outlive the she it&#8217;s from. Even years after they&#8217;ve left the airwaves, these shows will be remembered not for their plots or characters, but their opening themes.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mandalorian-season-3-officially-confirmed-2021\/\">The Mandalorian Season 3 is Officially Confirmed for 2021\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VNCu4Uh-JqU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>There are only two good things about this 2010 reboot of the classic 60s series:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/persona-5-hawaii-dates-ranked\/\">the gorgeous locale<\/a>\u00a0and the fantastic theme song. The modern iteration of\u00a0<em>Hawaii Five-0<\/em>\u00a0is at-best a run-of-the-mill police procedural that balances one-note plots with obvious \u2018copaganda\u2019, and at worst is a production\u00a0that systemically underpaid its BIPOC staff (really \u2013 Google it). Nevertheless, for 10 straight seasons, fans kept coming back for more. Why? Probably just to hear that famous theme over the opening credits.<\/p>\n<p>With upbeat drums and smooth brass, the theme effortlessly sells a feeling of \u2018cool\u2019, as if there\u2019s nothing more awesome than solving crime in Hawaii (which, to be fair, there isn\u2019t). Written by Morton Stevens for the original 60s series and continued in the reboot, the theme won an Emmy for \u2018Outstanding Musical Composition\u2019 and still remains stuck in the head of viewers to this day.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ERmHiaKJwtU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>The\u00a0Big Bang Theory<\/em>\u00a0is something of an enigma.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/netflix-comedy-specials-ali-wong-nanette-bill-burr\/\">The show isn\u2019t funny<\/a>\u00a0(\u201cbazinga!\u201d), it excused misogynistic behavior under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/big-bang-theory-sitcom-pilot-storylines-aged-poorly\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the guise of the main characters being socially inept<\/a>\u00a0(\u201cof course Howard can sexually harass women! He\u2019s a nerd!\u201d), and it slowly morphed from being a sitcom into being a rom-com. And, yet, it was one of the highest rated shows in TV history. Why? It\u2019s all down to Jim Parsons\u2019 incomparable performance as Sheldon Cooper, and the Barenaked Ladies\u2019 incredible theme song.<\/p>\n<p>Really, BNL\u2019s theme song perfectly threads the needle. It references the scientific theme of the show whilst also injecting much-needed personality, whimsy, and humor into proceedings. After listening to the way-too-catchy song, viewers can be forgiven for thinking\u00a0<em>The Big Bang Theory<\/em>\u00a0was actually funny.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oKDjis1fg8E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>The Drew Carey Show<\/em>\u00a0is so close to being \u2018good\u2019 TV. The first season was great fun, cementing Carey as comedically capable and stood out as being\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mayfield-heights-ohio-gamestop-arrest-disturbance-falsification-rape\/\">a true celebration of Cleveland, Ohio<\/a>, the home of the \u201ceveryman\u201d according to the show. However, as writing responsibilities were swapped about in later seasons, the comedy took it a hit and the show ended as a shell of the great TV it used to be, losing favor with both critics and viewers.<\/p>\n<p>But, one thing stayed resolute \u2013 it always had a rocking theme tune. Written by Ian Hunter and covered by The Presidents of the United States of America for the show,\u00a0<em>Cleveland Rocks<\/em>\u00a0spoke to how much the show loved Cleveland and shared its understatedly punk point-of-view. Up-tempo, loud, and brash, the song was a level of quality that the show, unfortunately, couldn\u2019t meet.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/O0nqwgu_Us4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Look, no<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/michael-bay-songbird-movie-not-work-actors-union\/\"> one has ever claimed\u00a0<em>Baywatch<\/em>\u00a0is a \u2018good\u2019 TV show<\/a>. The cultural phenomenon was always just propelled by the image of its overly attractive cast running with fervour down a beach \u2013 no one cared about the B-tier soap plotlines the show used, they were in it just for Mitch Buchanan (David Hasselhoff) and C.J. Parker (Pamela Anderson) et al. Naturally, then, it helped that the show came with a fantastic theme song.<\/p>\n<p>Written by Jimi Jamison and entitled\u00a0<em>I\u2019m Always Here<\/em>, the song creates the perfect backdrop for the heightened reality of the show. The melody is melodramatic, the lyrics are saccharine, and the tune is classic 80s fun.
