Capcom was recently the victim of a major hack, with employee personal information stolen and information on the company’s upcoming projects leaked online.\u00a0The Capcom leak includes information on what fans can expect from the company’s hugely successful\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> franchise,\u00a0like\u00a0what it has in store for 2021’s\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

The data, compiled on ResetEra, claims that\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/em><\/a> will have a current-gen release. Capcom previously suggested that it was looking into the possibility of releasing\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/em> on current-generation consoles as well as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and now it seems that is indeed what’s happening with the game. As for when fans will actually get to play the game, the leak indicates that the\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/em> release date will be sometime in April of 2021.<\/p>\n

However, fans may get to try\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/em> prior to its planned April 2021 launch. Apparently,\u00a0a\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/em> demo<\/a> is in the works, though it’s unclear when exactly it will be available. Capcom has used demos to great effect in the past, with its\u00a0Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour<\/em> demo generating significant excitement for that game. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what the company pulls off with a\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/em> demo, if it does indeed materialize.<\/p>\n

Another big piece of\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/em> news from the leak points to the game possibly getting a battle royale-style multiplayer mode of some kind. The project is referred to internally as “Project Highway\/Village Online,” indicating that it has something to do with\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/em>. Perhaps it will be a completely standalone release, or maybe it will be tied to\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/em> in the same way that\u00a0Resident Evil: Resistance<\/em> is tied to the\u00a0Resident Evil 3<\/em> remake<\/a>. Until official information from Capcom comes to light, though, all fans can do is speculate.<\/p>\n

Resident Evil 8<\/em> wasn’t the only\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> project mentioned in the big Capcom leak. A\u00a0Resident Evil 4<\/em> Oculus Quest port<\/a> is also reportedly in development, though more details on that are hard to come by. It’s possible the\u00a0Resident Evil 4<\/em> VR port will be based on the rumored\u00a0Resident Evil 4<\/em> remake, but it’s also possible that it will be based on the original version of\u00a0RE4<\/em>. Whatever the case may be, more information should come to light in the months ahead.<\/p>\n

Assuming the\u00a0Resident Evil 8<\/em> release date leak is accurate, all of this info should be confirmed or denied within the next six months or so.<\/p>\n

Resident Evil 8<\/strong><\/em> is confirmed to be in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with current-gen versions rumored.<\/p>\n
