Each new character added to Overwatch<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0has gotten a good amount of story when they release, but the original twenty-one have had much of their backgrounds sprinkled in long after the game launched. Symmetra is the subject of the latest Overwatch<\/em><\/a> short story,\u00a0which provides some\u00a0strong background on the character. Zenyatta, another member of the original line-up, also makes an appearance and aids her on a journey of spirituality.<\/p>\n

Symmetra, whose real name is Satya Vaswani, is dealing with tensions that have arisen between the Vishkar Corporation and the city of Roshani in the story “Stone by Stone.” The corporation’s work has damaged a sacred statue of the Omnics, where she runs into Zenyatta<\/a>. He not only helps her better understand herself but the Omnics as well.<\/p>\n

Blizzard is currently developing the lore-heavy Overwatch<\/em> 2. <\/em>The sequel was announced via a cinematic at BlizzCon 2019<\/a>, and it is confirmed to have activities focused on current events in the universe that are similar to current\u00a0seasonal events, where players delve back into the game’s past to explore things that came before. Instead of running around and shooting each other with bits of story thrown in every so often, players will get more immersion in the game’s world as it is now. While PvP will still be a big part of the game, the sequel will also focus heavily on PvE.<\/p>\n

Blizzard hasn’t said much about the game since it was announced, but fans will likely hear a lot more at BlizzCon 2021, which kicks off in February. This\u00a0upcoming\u00a0BlizzCon Online will be free to watch<\/a>, so those who want to tune in can do so at no cost.<\/p>\n

The director of the game, Jeff Kaplan, confirmed that this convention is when players can expect major information on the sequel to be revealed. Since it is expected to arrive sometime next year, BlizzCon\u00a0may be\u00a0when an official release date will be announced. The Overwatch 2 <\/em>release date was potentially leaked<\/a> ahead of the convention, but whether it turns out to be accurate will have to be seen.<\/p>\n

Hero 32, Echo, was the latest to be added and appears in the sequel’s announcement cinematic. However, Echo is the last Overwatch<\/em> hero<\/a>\u00a0being released for the current game as well. According to Kaplan, the production of new heroes has been halted for the time being while the company diverts resources to the sequel. He clarified that development of new characters hasn’t stopped entirely, and his team is still cooking up more for Overwatch 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Overwatch<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.<\/p>\n
