The new title was joint-developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, and brings players back to the Cold War setting of the previous <em>Black Ops<\/em>\u00a0games.<\/p>\n<p>As with most <em>Call of Duty<\/em> games, a lot of interest in the new title is focused on its multiplayer. While there aren&#8217;t many major innovations over previous entries in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war\/\"><em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em><\/a>, there are some interesting changes. One of\u00a0the most impactful of these revolves\u00a0around the Camo Challenges, which players must complete to unlock new skins for their weaponry. Many players have experienced the long road to Damascus, the most difficult camo to acquire in <em>Call of Duty: Modern Warfare<\/em>. However, while <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-duty-black-ops-cold-war-review\/\"><em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em>\u00a0launched<\/a> only a few days ago, players\u00a0are already noticing some striking differences.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-how-long-to-beat-missions\/\">Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War &#8211; How Long to Beat<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/COD-Cold-War-Multiplayer-SLower.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Assault Rifles are the quintessential <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-multiplayer-best-tips\/\"><em>Call of Duty<\/em> multiplayer weapon class<\/a>, and will always be among the most popular picks. This hasn&#8217;t changed in <em>Black Ops Cold War<\/em>,\u00a0and\u00a0many of the new game&#8217;s most effective guns are among the ARs. To complete the Camo Challenges for Assault Rifles in<em> Cold War<\/em>, players will need to do the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spray: 300 kills.<\/li>\n<li>Stripes: 100 Headshot kills.<\/li>\n<li>Classic: 5 kills without dying 20 times.<\/li>\n<li>Geometric: 50 Longshot kills.<\/li>\n<li>Flora: 75 kills against\u00a0enemies that are detected, stunned, or blinded, by your Scorestreaks, Equipment, or Field Upgrade.<\/li>\n<li>Science: 50\u00a0kills against enemies that are taking cover.<\/li>\n<li>Psychedelic: Kill 2 or more enemies\u00a0in quick succession 25 times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While these kill counts\u00a0may seem pretty big, they look like rookie numbers to anyone who has attempted to grind out Assault Rifle Camo in <em>Modern Warfare<\/em>. Most of the comparable Challenges require almost double the kills, and a few have much more specific objectives. For example, having one camo that unlocks after kills with 0 of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-mp5-loadout\/\"><em>Call of Duty<\/em>&#8216;s Weapon Attachments<\/a> and one that unlocks after kills with 5 Attachments means\u00a0that players can&#8217;t grind both at once.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spray Paint: 800 kills.<\/li>\n<li>Woodland: 125 Headshot kills.<\/li>\n<li>Digital: 160 Crouching kills.<\/li>\n<li>Dragon: 75 Hipfire kills.<\/li>\n<li>Splinter: 100 Longshot kills.<\/li>\n<li>Topo: 100 Mounted kills.<\/li>\n<li>Tiger: 180 kills with 5 Attachments.<\/li>\n<li>Stripes: 50 kills Shortly after Reloading.<\/li>\n<li>Reptile: 110 kills with 0 Attachments Equipped.<\/li>\n<li>Skulls: kill 3 Enemies without Dying (x35 times).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is one <em>Cold War<\/em> Camo Challenge that players are finding <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-finishing-moves-do-how-perform\/\">harder\u00a0than those in <\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-finishing-moves-do-how-perform\/\">Modern Warfare,<\/a><\/em>\u00a0however. Though\u00a0it&#8217;s not because it&#8217;s particularly difficult, but instead because it&#8217;s hard to know what the rules are. The challenge to unlock the Science camo is to kill 50 enemies that are taking cover. This is a vague challenge to say the least, and it seems that <em>Cold War<\/em> has a very strict definition of &#8220;taking cover.&#8221; Already players are complaining that the incredibly specific challenge is practically impossible to complete in regular gameplay.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/helicopter-call-of-duty-cold-war-.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Assault Rifles aren&#8217;t the only weapon type with\u00a0simpler\u00a0Camo Challenges in <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/span><\/em>. Even the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-zombies-wonder-weapon-die-shockwave\/\">most powerful\u00a0weapons in<em> Cold War<\/em><\/a> are easier to doll-up than their <em>Modern Warfare<\/em> counterparts. For example, here are the Launcher Camo Challenges for <em>Cold War<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spray:\u00a05o kills.<\/li>\n<li>Stripes: Destroy 50 Equipment, Scorestreaks, or Vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>Classic:\u00a03 kills\u00a0without dying 20 times.<\/li>\n<li>Geometric: 50 ground-based Scorestreak or Vehicle kills.<\/li>\n<li>Flora: 50 aerial Scorestreak or Vehicle kills.<\/li>\n<li>Science: 3 Scorestreak or Vehicle kills in a single game 10 times.<\/li>\n<li>Psychedelic: Kill 2 or more enemies\u00a0in quick succession 25 times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They&#8217;re a fairly\u00a0tricky\u00a0set to complete,\u00a0and\u00a0it may take some time for players to get the Flora and Geometric camos. However, when compared to the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-gold-diamond-dark-matter-ultra-weapon-skins\/\">Launcher Camo Challenges<\/a> for <em>Modern Warfare<\/em> they seem almost trivial:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spray Paint:\u00a0125 kills.<\/li>\n<li>Woodland: 40 kills as Attacker.<\/li>\n<li>Digital: 40 kills as Defender.<\/li>\n<li>Dragon: 75\u00a0Air Streak kills.<\/li>\n<li>Splinter:\u00a075 Ground Streak kills.<\/li>\n<li>Topo: 50 Spotter destroys.<\/li>\n<li>Tiger: 50 Support Streak kills.<\/li>\n<li>Stripes: 50 kills using the Cold-Blooded Perk.<\/li>\n<li>Reptile: 50\u00a0kills using the Amped Perk.<\/li>\n<li>Skulls: 50\u00a0Vehicle destroys.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In terms of raw numbers the<em> Modern Warfare<\/em> Challenges may not seem that much worse, with the obvious exception of the Spray Paint challenge. However, they&#8217;ve received a lot of criticism from players over how difficult some of them are to accomplish. The only bright side is that many can be completed at once, if players are smart about their <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-how-to-prestige-system-progression\/\"><em>Call of Duty<\/em> Perk loadouts<\/a> and targeting.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-zombies-nightmare-at-20-feet-achievement-unlock-how\/\">Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies Nightmare at 20 Feet Achievement Explained<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/COD-Cold-War-Multiplayer-Scoped.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>There isn&#8217;t a single weapon class that hasn&#8217;t had its Camo Challenges\u00a0simplified\u00a0in <em>Cold War<\/em>, including some of the most difficult. Sniper Rifles are notorious in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-nadeshot-sbmm\/\"><em>Call of Duty<\/em> multiplayer<\/a>\u00a0for their high skill-cap and deadly effectiveness in the right hands. As such, they&#8217;ve always been one of the most difficult weapons for new players to unlock camo for. Here\u00a0are the Camo Challenges for Sniper Rifles in <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spray: 200 kills.<\/li>\n<li>Stripes: 50 Headshot kills.<\/li>\n<li>Classic: 5 kills without dying 20 times.<\/li>\n<li>Geometric: 50 Longshot kills.<\/li>\n<li>Flora: 50 kills while holding breath.<\/li>\n<li>Science: 50 One Shot kills.<\/li>\n<li>Psychedelic: Kill 2 or more enemies\u00a0in quick succession 25 times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once again, the numbers for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/black-ops-cold-war-expected-outperform-modern-warfare\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Modern Warfare<\/em> Challenges<\/a> are almost universally higher:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spray Paint: 450 kills.<\/li>\n<li>Woodland: 60 Headshot kills.<\/li>\n<li>Digital: 50 Crouching kills.<\/li>\n<li>Dragon: 50 One Shot kills.<\/li>\n<li>Splinter: 150 kills with 5 Attachments.<\/li>\n<li>Topo: 50 Longshot kills.<\/li>\n<li>Tiger: 50 Mounted kills.<\/li>\n<li>Stripes: 25 Double kills.<\/li>\n<li>Reptile: 75 kills with 0 Attachments.<\/li>\n<li>Skulls: Kill 3 Enemies without Dying (x25 times).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are a few potential reasons why <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-duty-black-ops-cold-war-balance-patch\/\">Treyarch might have\u00a0chosen to reduce the difficulty<\/a> of its Camo Challenges compared to the most recent <em>Call of Duty<\/em> titles. One is that the Challenges for <em>Modern Warfare<\/em> and <em>Warzone<\/em> were increased in order to compensate for the fact that players share progression between the games. Another\u00a0could be that player feedback and internal number-crunching showed that the higher requirements were off-putting to players.
