Paramount and Hasbro are planning to revamp the live-action Transformers<\/em><\/strong><\/a> film franchise with a director already in mind. After\u00a0searching for months,\u00a0Creed 2<\/em> director\u00a0Steven Caple Jr. is reportedly the top choice of Paramount and Hasbro to helm the next Transformers<\/em> film.<\/p>\n

In January, Paramount opted to reinvent the Transformers<\/em> film series by putting two scripts into active development simultaneously. James Vanderbilt reportedly penned a screenplay based on the Beast Wars<\/em>\u00a0series<\/a>\u00a0while Jaboy Harold wrote a script for a story rumored to be set in the same universe as director Travis Knight’s\u00a0Bumblebee<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Deadline reports that while\u00a0Steven Caple Jr. and Paramount have not yet begun negotiations,\u00a0a deal between both parties should be reached in the coming weeks. The Creed 2\u00a0<\/em>filmmaker\u00a0<\/em>reportedly became viewed as the best choice to direct\u00a0the revamped Transformers<\/em> franchise<\/a> after several meetings with\u00a0studio executives and producers, including\u00a0Paramount Motion Picture President Emma Watts. Paramount had selected\u00a0Harold’s script as the next entry in the\u00a0Transformers<\/em>\u00a0franchise and began taking pitches from potential directors after allowing the scribe to complete the final touches on his screenplay at the end of the summer. In addition to his work on Creed 2<\/em>, a sequel to Ryan Coogler’s Creed<\/em> and the eighth installment of the Rocky<\/em> film series,\u00a0Caple Jr. is known for directing episodes of\u00a0\u00a0Grown-ish <\/i>and the drama feature titled\u00a0The Land.<\/i><\/p>\n

The live-action Transformers<\/em> film series launched with the first installment from director Michael Bay in 2007. After returning to helm the four sequels, Bay departed the franchise to focus on smaller projects<\/a>. Paramount\u00a0then decided to establish a writer’s room with the intent of creatively reinventing the Transformers<\/em> films, eventually leading to the release of a Bumblebee<\/em> spin-off set during the ’80s with Hailee Steinfeld.<\/p>\n

While the\u00a0first five installments of the live-action\u00a0Transformers\u00a0<\/em>film series have collectively earned over $4 billion worldwide, none of them were well-received upon their release.\u00a0The Bumblebee<\/em> spin-off ultimately ended its box office run as the lowest-grossing entry in the franchise, but it was produced on a relatively smaller budget and received considerably more praise.<\/p>\n

Paramount and Hasbro are also developing an animated Transformers<\/em> prequel set on Cybertron. Toy Story 4<\/em> director Josh Cooley has been tapped to helm the film<\/a> from a script written by\u00a0Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.<\/p>\n

Transformers<\/em> is now available on Netflix.<\/p>\n
