Square Enix has\u00a0put\u00a0Kingdom Hearts<\/em><\/strong> anthology collections on sale as digital downloads for both PlayStation and Xbox consoles. For a limited time, anyone interested in the series can\u00a0purchase ten games for as little as $30, including\u00a0the most recent major installment in the series, Kingdom Hearts 3<\/em>.<\/p>\n

As a crossover between Disney and Final Fantasy<\/em> properties,\u00a0the\u00a0Kingdom Hearts<\/a><\/em>\u00a0series has something to intrigue most gamers. For a long time, however, fans struggled to get into the series because of its release strategy. In the first decade of\u00a0the series’\u00a0existence, Kingdom Hearts<\/em>\u00a0spin-off games<\/a>\u00a0appeared on many different handheld consoles. These games could not\u00a0truly be called “spin-offs,” however, as they were extremely important to understanding the overall story. To rectify this, anthology collections have remastered many of the games and condensed others into feature-length cutscenes, allowing everyone to catch up on the full story.<\/p>\n

PlayStation owners can get the\u00a0Kingdom Hearts All-in-One Package\u00a0<\/em>for $29.99 until November 30th. While this package is not available on Xbox, gamers can purchase its components for a total of just under $60 until November 30th. Together, this collection includes everything needed to experience the series’\u00a0famously bizarre storytelling<\/a>. This includes\u00a0Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, <\/em>and 3<\/em>, as well as full remastered versions of\u00a0spin-offs\u00a0Re:Chain of Memories, Birth by Sleep (<\/em>plus its short follow-up\u00a00.2 Birth by Sleep)<\/em>, and\u00a0Dream Drop Distance<\/em>. It also includes cutscene\u00a0collections from\u00a0the games 358\/2 Days<\/em> and\u00a0Re:Coded<\/em>, as well as an original film covering events from the\u00a0Kingdom Hearts<\/em> mobile games.<\/p>\n

It’s important to note that these collections don’t include the latest parts of the series story. Gamers will still need to purchase Re Mind<\/em>,\u00a0the DLC epilogue to\u00a0Kingdom Hearts 3<\/em>, as well as\u00a0Melody of Memory<\/em>, the latest series installment<\/a>\u00a0that released earlier this month. At the very least, Re Mind<\/em> is on sale for 25% off its normal $29.99 price tag until November 30th on both PlayStation and Xbox.\u00a0Re Mind<\/em> and\u00a0Melody of Memory<\/em> together set up the next phase of the\u00a0Kingdom Hearts<\/em> story, meaning fans will definitely want to play them.<\/p>\n

Additionally, if fans really want to fully understand the series lore, they will need to immerse themselves in the\u00a0Kingdom Hearts<\/em> mobile games, Union X<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Dark Road<\/em>. Although they are free-to-play, they are a significant time investment, because both contain a substantial amount of Kingdom Hearts<\/em> filler content<\/a>\u00a0in addition to plot-critical cutscenes.\u00a0Union X<\/em> ended up being very important for understanding the story of\u00a0Kingdom Hearts 3<\/em>, and its relevance will likely only increase for any future games.<\/p>\n

Even though Xbox fans seem to have the worse deal, this isn’t strictly true. Anyone with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can access everything in the PlayStation-exclusive\u00a0All-in-One Package\u00a0<\/em>for free. Given that some are concerned about\u00a0a lack of major Xbox Series exclusives<\/a>\u00a0at launch, this would be a great time for new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S owners to jump into the\u00a0Kingdom Hearts<\/em>\u00a0series on their new consoles.<\/p>\n
