When it comes to a series as big as The Elder Scrolls<\/a>, fans are bound to have big expectations. It definitely isn’t easy to accept that the next game of the series probably won’t come out for a long time, despite Skyrim’s<\/a> reign of over a decade. However, with projects like Starfield keeping Bethesda busy, The Elder Scrolls 6 likely isn’t going to be talked about for years.<\/p>\n

That said, there’s a lot of talk in the depths of the Internet about what the next game should look like. While some information can be deduced from the clues fans have already received, other information is purely speculation or just rumors. Regardless, it’s interesting to consider them when thinking about what the next big game of the decade should be like.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Want: Crafting System Inspired By Fallout 4<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

A few years after Skyrim’s launch, Fallout 4<\/a> was released and really put The Elder Scrolls series to shame with how much better it looked overall. The jump between these two games was massive, despite having come from the same game studio. It also gives us some hope that there’s real improvement on the horizon.<\/p>\n

For one, the crafting system in Skyrim might actually be overhauled to be somewhat similar to Fallout 4’s system, or at least receive some inspiration from it. It’s likely there will be more freedom and customization, especially since the two games have shared gameplay features in the past, namely the settlement building<\/a> of Fallout 4 and Hearthfire DLC of Skyrim.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Don’t Want: Multiplayer<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

In recent years, Bethesda has taken a widely unpopular direction when it comes to some of its titles. It has focused quite a bit on developing multiplayer titles like The Elder Scrolls Online<\/a> and the massive flop that’s known as Fallout 76<\/a>. While the former isn’t exactly bad (but not fantastic either), it’s a worrying trend.<\/p>\n

It could be that the next game in the series would receive some sort of multiplayer mode or features. The idea sounds more appealing than what it would probably look like. Hopefully the efforts of the development are directed towards a fantastic singleplayer experience over a complex, potentially buggy and shallow multiplayer mode.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Want: Better Magic<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Although Skyrim’s entire idea evolved around the freedom of doing whatever you wanted with your character, there were some glaring inconsistencies between some of the possible character builds available. The main issue was definitely the weak state of magicka and mage builds<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As such, some fans have been speculating hard that Bethesda could be looking to buff magic and overhaul the system once again. There were some major changes between Oblivion and Skyrim, so it’s likely something revolutionary will be introduced again in the sixth game to change things up.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Don’t Want: Valenwood Location<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Another big question for the next game has been its location. There are many options all around Tamriel, and even outside of it and theories are running wild. One of the potential locations cited by many has been Valenwood, the home of the Bosmer.<\/p>\n

This would make sense since elves, specifically high elves<\/a>, do play a major role in Skyrim. However, it would also be interesting to see a location much closer to Skyrim in order to experience the the historical aftermath of Skyrim’s events more closely.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Want: More Immersive Guilds<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Aside from unbalanced builds, Skyrim has been criticized for giving\u00a0you\u00a0too much room to become whatever\u00a0you want. Contrarily to Bethesda’s other major game of the last decade, Fallout 4, in Skyrim you can join any guild you want and become the servant of every Daedric Prince<\/a>, regardless of them being rivals.<\/p>\n

It’s very likely the developers will take these lessons to heart and adopt a more Fallout 4-like gameplay, where choices will have more relevant consequences and guilds and other factions must be committed to fully. It won’t be just a choice of Stormcloak<\/a> or Imperial, hopefully, and the quests will also be longer and more immersive due to forcing you to commit to a side.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Don’t Want: A Location Outside Of Main Continent<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Back to location speculation. This has been the most talked about topic when it comes to the next game, since location can reveal a lot about potential guilds, quests and plots that would be involved in the next game.<\/p>\n

Another running theory is that the game doesn’t actually take place in Tamriel, but instead on the island of Yokuda. The reason why this would be a shame is because many of the previous games have focused on the mainland of the continent, which generally has more to offer. Yokuda could work well as a DLC like Solstheim, but for a long main story, the main land’s provinces are much\u00a0better suited.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Want:\u00a0Less Loading Screens<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Technology of new games is constantly evolving, and the major point for gaming studios to brag about is the lack of loading screens. These take away from immersion and introduce and annoying cut from actual gameplay, which is why open-world games with minimal loading screens are so popular and powerful in delivering a great experience.<\/p>\n

Some players have speculated that the next game will have even less loading screens. In particular, cities won’t require the player to go through a loading screen, while sub-locations like dungeons<\/a> and houses might still have loading screens.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Don’t Want: The Thalmor As Antagonists – Again<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

One of the greatest prevailing rumors and theories right now is that the good old Thalmor of the Aldmeri Dominion will make a comeback. While they certainly proved to be an annoying antagonistic force in Skyrim and their role in any future games can’t be denied, their return isn’t necessarily a good thing.<\/p>\n

For one, it would be nice to have a total change of pace with the introduction of new antagonists. The Thalmor could have a very minor role in some side quests that could refer to Skyrim’s events, but otherwise the game definitely needs new major and minor villains<\/a> that have nothing to do with the Aldmeri Dominion.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Want: High Rock And Hammerfell<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The prevailing theories when it comes to the upcoming location of the game is that it either takes place in Hammerfell or High Rock. These two provinces are located side by side, and are also very close to Skyrim, which would allow a nice continuation of some of Skyrim’s historical events.<\/p>\n

Moreover, neither of the two provinces have been properly explored in past games, or if they have, it’s been far too long and those settings could be revisited in a more appealing way. Hopefully, the Redguards or Bretons get center stage in the next game.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Don’t Want: A Release After 2025<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The release date of the sixth game has not yet been announced, mainly because the game is still very much in development and Bethesda most likely has its hands filled with Starfield<\/a>. Some rumors have stated that the year of the release would be no sooner than 2025, although this was debunked later.<\/p>\n

Still, even if that rumor is untrue, it’s safe to assume the game won’t be out for a very long time and many rumors showcase this too with just how much attention and priority is given to Starfield. Hopefully, The Elder Scrolls 6 will follow Starfield by only a few years, and fans won’t have to wait five or more years for the next game.<\/p>\n
