The Metro<\/em> <\/strong>series went in a new direction with Metro Exodus<\/em> and its massive, open world-like locations, and it seems like developer 4A Games is looking to evolve the series even further with the next entry in the post-apocalyptic\u00a0universe. In a post celebrating the studio\u2019s 10-year anniversary, a Metro<\/em><\/a> multiplayer game has been confirmed to be in development.<\/p>\n

4A Games was recently acquired by THQ Nordic’s parent group<\/a>, with plans in place to continue the Metro<\/em> series as well as kick off new franchises. As it turns out, the Metro<\/em> series will be going in a new direction, but that does not mean that singleplayer will not be abandoned. Before detailing the multiplayer project, 4A Games ensured that the team is still \u201ccommitted to delivering a great story driven single player experience\u201d as well, as that is \u201cwhat the Metro series is founded on.\u201d<\/p>\n

The team went on to say that, while another fully single-player Metro<\/em> offering<\/a> is very much on the way, multiplayer has always \u201cbeen an ambition for 4A Games\u201d and is something that it can finally do due to a partnership with Saber Interactive. The studio acknowledges that \u201csome of our fans have concerns whenever they hear multiplayer mentioned,\u201d with 4A Games tackling the multiplayer Metro<\/em> game’s development head on as an attempt to quell any doubts or feats.<\/p>\n

The studio ensures fans that multiplayer will not feel tacked-on or rushed when it arrives, and that it will make sense within the Metro<\/em> universe as well. The mode will keep the same tone as the single-player games inspired by the Metro<\/em> book series<\/a>, and 4A Games says that it will make sure that the multiplayer Metro<\/em> project is \u201cnot to the detriment of our single-player ambitions.\u201d They also went on to say that nothing is set in stone regarding the multiplayer game\u2019s release.<\/p>\n

As said within the post, there is no guarantee that the next Metro<\/em> game will be multiplayer only. Likewise, the team says that it is equally unclear if \u201cthe next game will have single and multi-player in the same package.\u201d Whether the next Metro<\/em> games separate multiplayer and single-player is unclear for 4A Games at this time, so fans will have to remain patient and wait on more details regarding the next release in the horror-filled Metro<\/em> universe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The final bit of information in the post confirms that the next Metro<\/em> games will be available on PC and next-gen consoles, something that makes sense regarding 4A Games\u2019 recent comments on PS5\u2019s\u00a0power<\/a>. While no details regarding the actual gameplay and genre of the mode are shared in the post, 4A Games seems to be taking a thoughtful and careful approach with the Metro<\/em> multiplayer game.<\/p>\n
