Gilbert utilized many elements that had previously appeared in his 1987 point and click title\u00a0<em>Maniac Mansion<\/em>. The most notable of these borrowed elements is that the player is prompted to choose three characters from a wider roster at the start of the game.<\/p>\n<p>There are seven characters in total and each has their own individual skills and talents. The choice of characters that the player makes changes the way the story unfolds, giving the game lots of replay value.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>There is No Game: Wrong Dimension<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/There-is-No-Game.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Released this year, <em>There is No Game: Wrong Dimension<\/em> is a PC\/Mac game that was written by Pascal Cammisotto and developed by\u00a0Draw Me A Pixel. It is thought of as a sequel or expansion of Cammisotto&#8217;s 2015 winning game-jam entry titled <em>There is No Game<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The game has received many positive reviews from critics and has been called a &#8220;meta-game&#8221; as it is a game about a game.\u00a0<em>There is No Game: Wrong Dimension\u00a0<\/em>features many elements of classic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/10-fantastic-point-click-horror-games-that-are-perfect-for-halloween\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">point and click<\/a> games and is ramped up with plenty of humor.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Full Throttle<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Full-Throttle-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Full Throttle<\/em> was released by LucasArts in 1995 and was the first title that Tim Schafer worked on as project lead, head writer, and designer, though he had worked on previous LucasArts point and click adventure games. The game was re-released in 2016 by Double Fine and has recently joined the Xbox One roster alongside other classic point and click games from Double Fine.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Broken Age<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/broken-age-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Though developed and published by Double Fine Productions, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/broken-age\/\"><em>Broken Age<\/em><\/a> was a Kickstarter crowd-funded project, in fact, it remains one of the most successful Kickstarter projects to date. <em>Broken Age<\/em> was separated into two acts, with the first releasing in 2014 and the second releasing in 2015. More recently, it was released for <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-switch-indie-game-releases-summer-2020\/\">Nintendo Switch<\/a> in 2018.<\/p>\n<p><em>Broken Age<\/em> was Tim Schafer&#8217;s first return to the point and click genre since <em>Grim Fandango<\/em>. The game follows two very different characters in two seemingly different worlds, with the player being able to switch between the two at any time.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Sam and\u00a0Max Hit the Road<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/sam-and-max-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Sam and Max Hit the Road<\/em> is another gem from LucasArt&#8217;s era of classic point and click games. It released in 1995 and was based on the comic book series of the same name, which follows the title characters, or the Freelance Police as they are also known, as they try to track down a runaway bigfoot.<\/p>\n<p>There have been other titles in the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/sam-and-max\/\"><em>Sam and Max<\/em><\/a> series since, including more than one that never saw the light of day as they were canceled. The first of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/telltale-best-games-metacritic\/\">Telltale Game<\/a>&#8216;s episodic <em>Sam and Max<\/em> titles,\u00a0<em>Sam and Max: Save the World,\u00a0<\/em>has been remastered and its release is\u00a0only weeks away.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Discworld<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/discworld-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Discworld<\/em> is based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-worst-console-games-based-books-witcher-game-thrones\/\">novel<\/a> series of the same name by renowned author Terry Pratchett. It was developed by\u00a0Teeny Weeny Games and Perfect 10 Productions and follows the game of Rincewind the Wizard, loosely following the storyline of Pratchett&#8217;s <em>Guards! The games were critically acclaimed in Europe but were less successful in the states, likely due to the fact that Pratchett was an English author and his work was more well-known in Europe.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Thimbleweed Park<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/thimbleweed-park-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Thimbleweed Park<\/em> was created by\u00a0Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick and released in 2017. Despite being a fairly modern title, the game mimics the early point and click adventures that Gilbert created <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/10-cult-classic-90s-games-need-reboot\/\">in the 90s<\/a>, maintaining the same game mechanics and visual style.<\/p>\n<p>Similar to Gilbert&#8217;s earlier titles, the game is packed full of comedy and was very well received by critics and gamers alike. The game follows\u00a0Ray and Reyes, two FBI agents who have been tasked with investigating a murder in Thimbleweed Park.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/broken-sword-the-shadow-of-the-templars-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>There are five titles in total in the <em>Broken Sword<\/em> series,\u00a0with the first title, <em>Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars,<\/em> being released in 1996 and a Director&#8217;s Cut remake of it being released in 2009. The game follows an American by the name of George Stobbart who partners up with a French journalist by the name of Nico; together they unravel the mysteries of the Knights Templar.<\/p>\n<p>The first two titles in the series were the only critical and commercial successes, with many believing the transition to 3D graphics in the third and fourth games\u00a0to be the reason the series lost its charm. <em>Broken Sword 5: The Serpent&#8217;s Curse<\/em> was a <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/kickstarter-successful-video-game-campaigns\/\">Kickstarter project<\/a> that returned to form and 2D art style.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>The Secret of Monkey Island<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/the-secret-of-monkey-island-Cropped-1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Another member of the LucasArts family, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/monkey-island\/\"><em>Monkey Island<\/em><\/a> series began in 1990 with the release of <em>The Secret of Monkey Island<\/em>. The series follows Guybrush Threepwood as he\u00a0attempts to become a mighty pirate.
