After the immense success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was only a matter of time before DC tried to emulate that success with its own library of iconic superheroes<\/a>. The DC Extended Universe started off with Superman\u2019s origin story, which was a logical jumping-off point in theory, but divided fans with its bleak, gloomy tone in Zack Snyder\u2019s execution.<\/p>\n

Despite this controversy, Man of Steel<\/em> made enough money at the box office for Warner Bros. to pull the trigger on a cinematic universe. The muddled ensuing franchise has given audiences some of the best and worst comic book movies in recent memory.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Suicide Squad (27%)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Warner Bros. gave David Ayer six weeks to finalize the script for Suicide Squad<\/em>, then got anxious about his movie\u2019s dark tone<\/a> when Batman v Superman<\/em> underperformed at the box office and Deadpool<\/em> defied all expectations to become a hit.<\/p>\n

So, the studio butchered Ayer\u2019s cut<\/a> by hiring the editors of the well-received trailer to basically cut the whole movie like a feature-length trailer. The result flits between clunky exposition and incoherent action.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice (29%)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The hype surrounding a movie called Batman v Superman<\/em> resulted in bitter disappointment when the movie itself turned out to be nowhere near as fun as a movie bearing that title promised to be.<\/p>\n

After Warner Bros. got the bright idea to use BvS<\/em> as a springboard to their own Marvel-esque cinematic universe for DC characters, Zack Snyder lost interest in telling a cohesive story and took the opportunity to fill the movie with J.J. Abrams-style \u201cmystery box\u201d teases like the Joker\u2019s murder of Robin and the Flash\u2019s brief visit from the DCEU\u2019s future. The scenes that do serve the story, like the infamous \u201cSave Martha!\u201d moment, are even dumber.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Justice League (40%)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Considering it suffered from one of the most troubled productions in film history, it\u2019s a miracle that Justice League<\/em> is even coherent, but it\u2019s certainly not a good movie. Zack Snyder planned a dark, gloomy, mega-sized follow-up to BvS<\/em>, but the negative reception to BvS<\/em> gave Warner Bros. cold feet, so they told Snyder to keep his gigantic movie under two hours and give it a lighter tone.<\/p>\n

After a personal tragedy forced Snyder to step down, Warner Bros. took the liberty of completely changing his movie. The studio brought on Avengers<\/em> director Joss Whedon to cram in a bunch of bad Marvel-style jokes and the result is a tonal disaster.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Man Of Steel (56%)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Zack Snyder kicked off the DC Extended Universe by giving Superman\u2019s origin story a dark, gritty Batman Begins<\/em>-inspired reboot in Man of Steel<\/em>. While Snyder\u2019s creative decisions proved to be controversial among diehard Supes fans, Henry Cavill proved to be a perfect casting choice<\/a> for the role.<\/p>\n

Like Fant4stic<\/em> and The Amazing Spider-Man<\/em>, which were similarly influenced by Batman Begins<\/em>, the dark tone of Man of Steel<\/em> didn\u2019t suit its property. The last thing the bright-eyed symbol of optimism that is Superman<\/a> needs is a bleak, dreary, pessimistic movie.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Aquaman (65%)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Aquaman was the laughing stock of the DC Extended Universe until Zack Snyder cast Jason Momoa to play him. With his hulking physique and infinite coolness, Momoa made the king of Atlantis one of the world\u2019s most popular superheroes overnight.<\/p>\n

After Joss Whedon\u2019s reshot version of Justice League<\/em>\u00a0bungled Arthur Curry\u2019s characterization, James Wan came along to deliver a standalone movie with the globetrotting adventures of Indiana Jones<\/em> and the large-scale battle sequences of The Lord of the Rings<\/em> that went on to surpass The Dark Knight Rises<\/em> to become the highest-grossing DC movie ever made.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Birds Of Prey (78%)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

While there are a couple of issues with the script, Birds of Prey<\/em> was a huge improvement over Suicide Squad<\/em>, basically by taking the one good thing from that movie (Margot Robbie\u2019s Harley Quinn) and getting rid of everything else, including her romantic connection to the Joker.<\/p>\n

The main problem with Birds of Prey<\/em> is that it doesn\u2019t know if it wants to be a Harley Quinn solo movie or a team-up movie; it\u2019s set up as the latter, but seems desperate to be the former. It\u2019s never a good sign when a studio renames a movie in the middle of its theatrical run.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Shazam! (90%)<\/h2>\n

After Zack Snyder got the DCEU off to a decidedly humorless start with Man of Steel<\/em> and BvS<\/em>, David F. Sandberg injected the franchise with some much-needed comedy with the zany, self-aware fun of Shazam!<\/em>, in which a teenager is granted the ability to turn into an adult superhero by uttering the titular catchword.<\/p>\n

Zachary Levi carried the whole movie as Billy Batson\u2019s superpowered alter ego<\/a>, bringing all the character\u2019s immaturity, incompetence, and irrepressible urge to have fun to his superhero form.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Wonder Woman (93%)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Patty Jenkins was the perfect director to bring Wonder Woman to the screen. In stark contrast to the MCU\u2019s overuse of bathos, Jenkins decided to excise the word \u201ccheesy\u201d from her vocabulary and took Diana Prince\u2019s journey from Amazonian warrior to world-saving superhero seriously.<\/p>\n

This paired well with Gal Gadot\u2019s steadfast commitment to the role<\/a> and resulted in the DCEU\u2019s greatest entry. The \u201cNo Man\u2019s Land\u201d sequence is one of the most breathtaking set pieces in recent blockbuster memory.<\/p>\n
