Now, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/star-wars\/\"><strong><em>Star Wars<\/em><\/strong><\/a> icons, including franchise creator George Lucas and actor Mark Hamill, have written tributes to Prowse and his contribution to one of cinema&#8217;s most memorable villains.<\/p>\n<p>While James Earl Jones provided the deep and menacing voice of Darth Vader, Prowse was the man behind the armor who brought the intimidating antagonist to life in front of the cameras. The\u00a06-foot-7 actor\u00a0landed the role of Darth Vader, which he portrayed in all three chapters of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/star-wars-battlefront-2-original-trilogy-maps\/\">the original <em>Star Wars<\/em> trilogy<\/a>, after being seen by Lucas in Stanley Kubrick&#8217;s<em> A Clockwork Orange<\/em>. Prowse had chosen to portray Vader after\u00a0being offered the choice\u00a0of playing either the primary antagonist of the original <em>Star Wars<\/em> film or\u00a0Chewbacca, the towering Wookie\u00a0co-pilot and trusted friend\u00a0of Han Solo.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-mandalorian-buy-baby-yoda-cookies\/\">Here&#8217;s Where You Can Buy the Cookies Baby Yoda Ate in The Mandalorian<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucas recounted why Prowse was the ideal choice to portray Darth Vader. &#8220;David brought a physicality to Darth Vader that was essential for the character,&#8221; wrote Lucas. &#8220;He made\u00a0Vader leap off the page and on to the big screen, with an\u00a0imposing stature and movement performance to match the intensity and undercurrent of Vader&#8217;s presence.&#8221; Although Prowse himself was always <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/star-wars-battlefront-2-darth-vader-playable-villain\/\">hidden beneath Vader&#8217;s armor<\/a> and the character&#8217;s voice was not his own, Lucas recognized the late actor&#8217;s role in cementing the villain&#8217;s now-iconic status.\u00a0&#8220;David was up for anything and contributed to the success of what would become a memorable, tragic figure. He loved his fans as much as they loved him.&#8221; Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams, who respectively portrayed C-3PO and Lando Calrissian, also took to Twitter to reflect on Prowse&#8217;s passing and legacy.<\/p>\n<p>As Hamill noted, Prowse&#8217;s career extended far beyond the<em> Star Wars<\/em> franchise. Prowse also portrayed another iconic character,\u00a0Frankenstein&#8217;s monster, on three occasions,\u00a0starting with\u00a0the 1967 James Bond spoof <em>Casino Royale<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Prowse also played an unseen but crucial part in bringing <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/zack-snyder-justice-league-superman-snyder-cut\/\">Superman to the silver screen<\/a> for the first time.
