In celebration of <em>Super Mario Bros.<\/em>&#8216;s 35th anniversary, the next Maximus Cup is a <em>Super Mario All-Stars<\/em>\u00a0edition event, and it begins on December 3, at 11:00 PM PT and will last through December 7, at 10:59 PT.<\/p>\n<p>Maximus Cups in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tetris-battle-royale-switch\/\"><em>Tetris 99, <\/em>which is free with a Nintendo Online subscription<\/a>, allow players to compete in competitions, often with special themes. An<em> Animal Crossing: New Horizons<\/em> event took place earlier this year, for example, and now it is<em> Super Mario All-Stars&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0turn.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-sword-shield-tetris-99-crossover-october-2020\/\">Pokemon Tetris 99 Crossover Theme is Returning<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a Twitter announcement of the new event, Nintendo showcased some footage of <em>Tetris 99<\/em> and this <em>Mario<\/em> theme. The visuals and music are very much in line with old school <em>Mario<\/em> games, and the plump plumber can be seen running around on the bottom of the screen during gameplay. One of the things that is interesting about this event is that it is based on the 2D Mario collection, and not the recently released and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-mario-3d-all-stars-switch-review\/\">wonderfully reviewed <em>Super Mario 3D All-Stars<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NintendoAmerica\/status\/1333561710570049536?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The other thing that is intriguing about this Mario event inside of <em>Tetris 99<\/em> is that, although it is celebrating the 35th Anniversary of <em>Super Mario Bros<\/em>., it is not based on the game <em>Super Mario Bros. 35.\u00a0Tetris 99<\/em> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/super-mario-bros-35-how-to-play-download\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Super Mario Bros. 35<\/em> play like last-man-standing<\/a> battle royales and have a lot of similarities. The second to second gameplay is different, with one being a puzzle game and the other being a platformer, but the fact that players must send &#8220;trash&#8221; to enemies and be the last player alive is the same.
