From as early as the first story arc, Goku was picking up new skills on sight. Master Roshi\u2019s epic Kamehameha is immediately followed by Goku pulling off his own, setting a precedent for his prodigy that\u2019s gone on to define <a href=\"http:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/dragon-ball-z\">Dragon Ball<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/dragon-ball-af-toyble-manga-trivia\/\">10 Crazy Things You Never Knew About Dragon Ball AF<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goku proves that a martial artist is only as good as their training, picking up the best techniques he can to better himself. Goku is arguably the most skilled martial artist in <a href=\"http:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/dragon-ball-fighterz\">Dragon Ball<\/a>, but he doesn\u2019t always use everything at his disposal. <a href=\"http:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/dragon-ball-xenoverse\">Dragon Ball Super<\/a> has done a better job at varying up Goku\u2019s abilities, but the Saiyan is still missing some staples.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Jan Ken Punch<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Goku-Janken-punch.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alongside the Kamehameha, the Jan Ken Punch is one of Goku\u2019s earliest techniques in <a href=\"http:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/dragon-ball-z-kakarot\">Dragon Ball<\/a>. It\u2019s primarily used during the first three story arcs (the first Hunt for the Dragon Balls up to the end of the Red Ribbon Army arc) and one of Goku\u2019s few melee oriented skills. The Jan Ken Punch was taught to him by Grandpa Gohan prior to the start of the series.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The technique itself can strike in three different ways, all based on Rock Paper Scissors: Goku can punch his opponent, smack them in the face with his palm, or poke them in the eyes with his fingers. It\u2019s an incredibly endearing technique that speaks to Goku\u2019s creativity in martial arts, but it\u2019s also unrefined enough where he grows out of his as the story progresses.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Bojutsu<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/goku-with-Power-pole.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bojutsu refers to the martial art of stick fighting, where artists use staffs and poles in combat. Goku notably uses Bojutsu whenever wielding the Nyoibo \u2013\u00a0also known as the Power Pole in Funimation\u2019s English dub. While the Nyoibo is an iconic part of kid Goku\u2019s design, he actually doesn\u2019t use the staff all that much.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most Goku uses Bojutsu is during the Red Ribbon Army arc, particularly when he storms their headquarters and uses the Nyoibo to wipe out waves of soldiers at once. From there, Goku retires the Nyoibo as a weapon, connecting it to God\u2019s Palace at the end of the King Piccolo arc and then holding onto it as a keepsake (as seen in the 23d Tenkaichi Budokai.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Telepathy\u00a0<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Goku-telepathy.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goku has an odd habit of picking up techniques out of nowhere during Dragon Ball Z. Near the end of the fight with Vegeta, Goku begins using telepathy to communicate with Krillin. Considering the sheer amount of damage Goku took fighting Vegeta, it\u2019s not unreasonable he wouldn\u2019t be able to speak, thus requiring telepathy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interestingly, other characters such as Piccolo have shown a knack for telepathy in the past, and it\u2019s arguably Kaio\u2019s signature techniques (other than the literal Kaioken and Genki Dama, neither of which he can actually use.) That said, the opportunity hasn\u2019t presented itself for Goku to use telepathy again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Mind Reading<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Goku-mind-reading.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon landing on Namek, Goku puts his hand on Krillin\u2019s head and manages to read his mind. All on a whim, at that! While the act was clearly done on Toriyama\u2019s part so that Krillin didn\u2019t have to spill exposition for Goku, the mind reading still comes off bizarre. It\u2019s not without precedent, however.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/playstation-2-games-that-look-amazing-in-2020\/\">10 PlayStation 2 Games That Still Look Amazing In 2020<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 21st Tenkaichi Budokai establishes that martial arts masters can simply read minds as an inherent ability when Jackie Chun dive into Namu in order to see his backstory. Considering Goku dons how own kanji for the first time during the Frieza arc, it lines up nicely that he\u2019d pull off Mind Reading here.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Taiyoken<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Goku-Taiyoken.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Taiyoken \u2013\u00a0also known as the Solar Flare \u2013 is one of the most useful techniques in all of <a href=\"http:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/dragon-ball-xenoverse-2\">Dragon Ball<\/a>. A Crane School staple, the Taiyoken completely blinds the opponent by triggering a bright flash. The technique is used multiple times throughout Dragon Ball by quite a number of characters, Goku included.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goku\u2019s most notable use of the Taiyoken is during his fight against Vegeta when he briefly blinds the Oozaru. It\u2019s only enough to create a brief opening, but it arguably saves Goku\u2019s life. Given that it\u2019s a Crane School technique and generally non-combative, it does make sense Goku avoids the Taiyoken.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Handheld Genki Dama<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Goku-Genki-Dama.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goku uses the Genki Dama often enough in the franchise. Counting the movies, it\u2019s arguably overused. That said, Goku always defaults to the full power Genki Dama. It makes sense \u2013\u00a0after all, the technique is designed around charging raw energy \u2013 but Goku\u2019s missed out on the sheer practicality of the handheld version as a result.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Genki Dama isn\u2019t introduced as a gigantic sphere, but a handheld ball Goku can throw and slightly control. He\u2019s shown wielding the Genki Dama on Kaio\u2019s planet in full action, but never gets the opportunity to use the technique against an opponent properly. Starting with the Frieza arc, the Genki Dama only appears to be flung at full force.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Kienzan<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Goku-Kienzan.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kienzan (the Destructo Disk) is Krillin\u2019s signature technique, but Goku does use it once near the end of Dragon Ball. When Goku arrives with the Potara earrings to rescue Gohan from Buutenks, he slices the djinn in half with a Kienzan first. The attack does nothing but irritate Buu, but Goku is spared a full fight when Buutenks absorbs Gohan &amp; he ends up sensing Vegeta nearby. Despite how practical the Kienzan is, Goku\u2019s not the type of martial artist to cut his opponent in half unless he absolutely has to.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Magaru Kamehameha<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Goku-Magaru-Kamehameha.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Magaru Kamehameha is one of the most creative uses of the Ki attack in Dragon Ball. Goku is in rare form during the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai in general, pulling out all the stops in order to be crowned Strongest Under the Heavens. Along with firing a Kamehameha from his feet, Goku bends it during his fight with Piccolo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/dragon-ball-z-kakarot-gt-dlc-ss4-ssb\/\">Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot GT DLC Could Settle an Age-Old Debate<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This technique is called the Magaru Kamehameha and allows Goku to chase his enemies with the beam. The Magaru Kamehameha naturally exhausts an opponent\u2019s stamina before dealing contact. Even if it misses, however, the sheer surprise of the technique gives Goku a massive advantage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Hakai\u00a0<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Goku-vs-Merged-Zamasu-Dragon-Ball-Super-Hakai.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goku never learns to use the Hakai in the Dragon Ball Super anime, but this isn\u2019t the case for the manga. During his fight against Merged Zamasu, Goku fires out a Hakai in a desperate attempt to kill the immortal Kaioshin. Goku\u2019s exhausted himself fully up to this point, putting all his hope into a technique that should only be used by a God of Destruction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although Goku doesn\u2019t manage to kill Zamasu with the Hakai, he has actually used the technique since \u2013 albeit in a fairly anticlimactic fashion. After putting Moro in his place, Ultra Instinct Goku Hakais the rubble on top of the goat, almost akin to a power.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Dragon Fist<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Goku-Dragon-Fist.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dragon First is a Toei staple, showing up quite often in animated Dragon Ball content. Goku uses the Dragon First to kill Super 17 in GT along with multiple enemies in the movies. Where Dragon Fist was once non-canon, it&#8217;s been brought into the Dragon Ball Super manga. In fact, Goku even uses the Dragon Fist to finish off Moro in a three panel spread.
