World of Warcraft Classic\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>has been a nostalgic ride for many Blizzard fans. Also known\u00a0as\u00a0Vanilla<\/em>, the old game was recreated and re-released, and it’s been quite a year for\u00a0WoW Classic<\/em><\/a>.<\/em> But now players are inching closer and closer to what would have been patch 2.0, bringing an end to\u00a0Classic<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Released in September 2019,\u00a0World of Warcraft Classic\u00a0<\/em>was an almost 100% accurate recreation of the original\u00a0WoW<\/em> as it was 16 years ago. The patches were re-released in order, starting with MC, sliding through\u00a0Ahn’Qiraj and the war effort<\/a> coupled with the Scarab Lord grind, and is now getting closer and closer to the release of the final major content patch of\u00a0Vanilla<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Naxxramas is on its way in,\u00a0set to release on December 3rd, 2020. Back in 2004, this was the final big patch for OG\u00a0World of Warcraft<\/em>, bringing with it a massive raid ending in a battle with the Lich King’s right-hand man,\u00a0Archlich Kel’Thuzad<\/a>, an undead necromancer that drops some of the best loot that players had ever seen (at the time). But most importantly, the appearance of the floating citadel ushered in a new era for\u00a0WoW<\/em> players back in the day:\u00a0Burning Crusade.<\/em><\/p>\n

For those who have been loving the re-released content and have been leveling, raiding, and stockpiling gear, the unknown is what comes after\u00a0Naxxramas. While there have been some rumors of\u00a0Burning Crusade<\/em>\u00a0servers heading to Classic<\/em><\/a>, many are beginning to wonder what will be next for the game. It is possible that Blizzard could choose to continue into\u00a0BC<\/em> with patch 2.0, just as\u00a0it did more than a decade ago. But where to after that?<\/p>\n

If\u00a0BC\u00a0<\/em>is next on the menu, will players no longer be able to play\u00a0Vanilla\u00a0<\/em>at all, or will\u00a0Vanilla\u00a0<\/em>servers run alongside\u00a0BC\u00a0<\/em>servers, allowing players to experience both at the same time? If that occurs, it begs the question of what Blizzard’s end point would be. If it becomes popular enough, and goes on long enough, players could just choose which one of the eight expansions that they wish to play. While\u00a0Burning Crusade\u00a0<\/em>in itself would most likely be a great move for Blizzard<\/a>, the future after\u00a0BC\u00a0<\/em>looks hazy.<\/p>\n

A possibility that could be the future of\u00a0World of Warcraft\u00a0Classic<\/em>\u00a0after Phase 6<\/a> would be for Blizzard to move into\u00a0Burning Crusade<\/em>, which is arguably the best of the early expansions, and then make new content for\u00a0Classic<\/em>. It would build out the fanbase both in\u00a0Retail WoW<\/em> while keeping\u00a0Classic\u00a0<\/em>fresh for those who like the old-school style of\u00a0WoW<\/em>. But whatever Blizzard has in store, hopefully\u00a0Classic\u00a0<\/em>won’t be completely abandoned after Naxx.<\/p>\n

World of Warcraft Classic\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is available for PC.<\/p>\n
