Presumably this will be the first project to come from Brooker&#8217;s new production company <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/netflix-black-mirror\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Broke and Bones<\/a> which Netflix have invested heavily in.<\/p>\n<p>The project was mentioned in passing during an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/paddington-2-movie-hugh-grant-kids-reaction\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Paddington 2<\/em> actor Hugh Grant<\/a> for Vulture. When asked what he&#8217;s working on next, Grant replied &#8220;I\u2019m doing a thing tomorrow, actually. Charlie Brooker has written a mockumentary about 2020. It\u2019s for Netflix, and I am a historian who\u2019s being interviewed about the year. I\u2019m pretty repellent, actually! And you\u2019ll like my wig.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/netflix-settles-black-mirror-bandersnatch-lawsuit\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Netflix Settles Black Mirror: Bandersnatch Lawsuit<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Though Brooker is now best known for the dark sci-fi satire of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/netflix-black-mirror-bandersnatch-game\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Black Mirror<\/a>,<\/em> this upcoming mockumentary is more in line with his earlier work namely Screen Wipe. First shown on BBC Four in 2006 and loosely based on his weekly TV column, <em>Screen Wipe<\/em> was a then topical and revealing look at the mechanics of TV. The format was an instant success and spawned several spin offs like News Wipe, the one off video game focused <em>Gameswipe<\/em> and the end of year <em>Wipe<\/em> round ups which looked back over the year&#8217;s events. The last of which looked at the current COVID-19 pandemic, <em>Antiviral Wipe<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tOLRBnXLBEE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Wipe shows also had their own fictional talking heads in the shape of Barry Shitpeas (the series director Al Campbell) and Philomena Cunk (comedy writer and performer Diana Morgan) who has since spun off into her own BBC specials.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no word if this will be a full series or a one off special but this would be the first time global audiences get to see Charlie Brooker&#8217;s comedic side and may well pave the way for a return to the format he made his name in.
