However, director Rian Johnson revealed that he once considered using Hayden Christensen&#8217;s Anakin Skywalker for the scene in question instead of the wise Jedi master.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after failing to convince Rey to refrain from trying to <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-wars-kylo-ren-killed-planets-last-jedi\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">redeem Kylo Ren<\/a>, Luke sets out to burn the Jedi library on the isolated island\u00a0of\u00a0Ahch-To. However, the disillusioned Jedi&#8217;s efforts are foiled when his old master, Yoda, returns from the netherworld of the Force\u00a0and destroys the library himself. As in the old days, Yoda imparts wisdom upon his former pupil, urging\u00a0Luke to pass on the lessons learned from his failures and join Rey in the Resistance&#8217;s battle to defeat the First Order.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/star-wars-icons-pay-tribute-darth-vader-actor-david-prowse\/\">Star Wars Icons Pay Tribute to Darth Vader Actor David Prowse<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Including Anakin instead of Yoda would have marked the first onscreen appearance between Christensen and Hamill in the <em>Star Wars<\/em> franchise. However,\u00a0it was that very lack of an established relationship between both characters that prompted Johnson to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mark-hamill-mandalorian-droid-cameo\/\">reunite Luke with Yoda<\/a>\u00a0for the crucial scene.\u00a0&#8220;Briefly for the tree burning scene, but Luke\u2019s relationship was with Vader not really Anakin, which seemed like it would complicate things more than that moment allowed,&#8221; Johnson wrote in a Twitter post responding to a fan&#8217;s question regarding whether or not he considered using the fallen Skywalker.\u00a0&#8220;Yoda felt like the more impactful teacher for that moment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rianjohnson\/status\/1333838287073492992\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Christensen ultimately ended up reprising his role as Anakin for a voice-over cameo in <em>Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,<\/em> the concluding chapter of the sequel trilogy and the main saga as a whole. The scene in question involved multiple Jedi from the past encouraging Rey, who was on the verge of being defeated by a resurrected Emperor Palpatine, to summon the strength needed to vanquish the Sith Lord. At one point, Christensen was <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/hayden-christensen-rumor-obi-wan-kenobi-star-wars-show\/\">rumored to reprise his role as Anakin<\/a> in Lucasfilm&#8217;s Obi-Wan Kenobi series through flashbacks depicting critical moments of the Clone Wars, though there has been no official word regarding the veracity of these reports.<\/p>\n<p>With the Skywalker saga now complete, Lucasfilm appears to be focusing its efforts on producing <em>Star Wars <\/em>content for Disney+. Jon Favreau&#8217;s <em>The Mandalorian<\/em> has already proven to be a hit for the streamer and will be joined by the aforementioned Obi-Wan series as well as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/rogue-one-tv-show-black-mirror-toby-haynes\/\"><em>Rogue One<\/em> prequel<\/a> down the line.<\/p>\n<p>Fans need not wait for those projects to debut on Disney+ for their\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em> fix now that the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/lego-star-wars-holiday-special-trailer\/\"><em>LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>is available on the streamer.
