Tolkien. The intention is to raise enough funds to turn the property into a literary center dedicated to the late author.<\/p>\n<p>The crowd-funding campaign\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectnorthmoor.org\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Project Northmoor<\/a> was launched on December 2 with the help of\u00a0Award-winning author Julia Golding, who negotiated a three-month fundraising window with the current owner of the house. Now, McKellen, Freeman, and many more with connections to the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/lord-rings-book-characters-cut-movies\/\"><em>Lord of the Rings<\/em> franchise<\/a> have appeared in a recently released video asking for donations from fans\u00a0in order for the project to reach the goal of raising $6 million.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/wonder-woman-1984-will-debut-hbo-max-4k\/\">Wonder Woman 1984 Will Debut on HBO Max in 4K After All<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Per Entertainment Weekly, only $5.3 million is needed to purchase the home\u00a0but the campaign will fund renovations and restore the estate&#8217;s garden should $6.1 million be raised. Furthermore, reaching $6.2 million would allow the campaign to fund a scholarship for individuals from low-income backgrounds to attend creative courses and special events at the house. Additional touches could include a hobbit house being placed at the end of the garden with a $6.3 million total while pipe smokers would be able to enjoy <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/smaug-trivia-facts-hobbit-lord-rings-dragon\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Smaug&#8217;s lair<\/a> in the event of $6.45 million being donated. &#8220;We cannot achieve this without the support of the worldwide community of Tolkien fans, our fellowship of funders,&#8221; said McKellen in the video announcement.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IanMcKellen\/status\/1334163569236078592?\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unbelievably, considering his importance, there is no center devoted to Tolkien anywhere in the world,&#8221; added John Rhys-Davies, who portrayed\u00a0the dwarf\u00a0Gimli\u00a0in\u00a0<i>The Lord of the Rings<\/i>\u00a0trilogy. &#8220;The vision is to make Tolkien&#8217;s house into a literary hub that will inspire new generations of writers, artists, and filmmakers for many years to come.&#8221;\u00a0Among those who joined the\u00a0aforementioned cast members in the video call was\u00a0Annie Lennox, who sang the Academy Award-winning song &#8220;Into the West&#8221; for <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/lord-of-the-rings-aragorn-mission-impossible-dougray-scott\/\"><em>The Return of the King<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0Sir Derek Jacobi of 2019&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Tolkien <\/em>biopic<em>, <\/em>and<em>\u00a0Lord of the Rings<\/em>\u00a0illustrator John Howe.<\/p>\n<p>Should Tolkein&#8217;s home be secured for fans, the campaign aims to offer an authentic experience for guests.\u00a0&#8220;It will be renovated so that the guest can experience what it would have been like to call on the Professor in 1940,&#8221; reads the campaign&#8217;s official description.<\/p>\n<p>Tolkien&#8217;s home isn&#8217;t the only\u00a0iconic dwelling to be put up for sale this past year.
