Announced today via a press release on the company’s site, BioWare\u00a0General Manager\u00a0Casey Hudson and\u00a0Executive Producer of\u00a0Dragon\u00a0<\/em>Age\u00a0<\/em>Mark Darrah are\u00a0leaving the studio.\u00a0The developers\u00a0were\u00a0notable figures\u00a0at\u00a0BioWare<\/a> and associated heavily with its biggest IPs, with Chief Studios Officer Laura Miele claiming in a statement that\u00a0both\u00a0will be remembered as “an essential part of the studio\u2019s history.”<\/p>\n

According to Miele, the decision will not affect the current lineup of games in development at BioWare, with the likes of\u00a0Mass Effect: The Legendary Edition<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0the newest entry in the\u00a0Dragon Age\u00a0<\/em>series set to continue as planned. With their departure, Samantha Ryan,\u00a0former senior vice president of production and development for Warner Bros Games, will be overseeing the studio, while Christian Dailey will be taking an executive producer slot on\u00a0Dragon Age.<\/em><\/p>\n

According to Miele, the search is now on to fill Casey Hudson<\/a>‘s vacant slot as general manager, with the chief studios officer claiming the goal is\u00a0to find someone who “embodies the values of this team and who will help carry on the incredible legacy of BioWare.” Both men have had lengthy stints working\u00a0alongside BioWare, spearheading some of the company’s biggest games.<\/p>\n

Casey Hudson is likely best known for serving\u00a0as creative director\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0Mass Effect\u00a0<\/em>trilogy and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic<\/em>, leading the charge on\u00a0developing both\u00a0sci-fi\u00a0RPGs. He originally departed the studio back in 2014, announcing in 2015 that he would work alongside Microsoft on the Hololens<\/a>. He later returned to the company in 2017 when BioWare’s former GM\u00a0Aaryn Flynn vacated his position. Hudson’s\u00a0work on\u00a0Mass Effect\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Star Wars:\u00a0<\/em>Knights of the Old Republic\u00a0<\/em>has forever cemented the developer\u00a0as a significant name in the RPG genre.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Mark Darrah has been a significant part of\u00a0the\u00a0Dragon Age\u00a0<\/em>franchise since it first debuted back in 2009. Acting as an executive producer for\u00a0Dragon Age: Origins, <\/em>Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age:\u00a0<\/em>Inquisition,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Anthem<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>he’s been one of the biggest names involved with the company for years and a huge asset for the studio’s seminal fantasy RPG franchise. Much like Hudson, he was an essential part of BioWare’s history and will surely move onto some exciting projects in the future.<\/p>\n

Hudson and Darrah will be leaving behind some huge projects still to come in BioWare’s future, with the eagerly awaited\u00a0Mass Effect: Legendary Edition\u00a0<\/em>set to launch next year and the fourth\u00a0Dragon Age\u00a0<\/em>game primed to reignite the popular fantasy series in the near future. There also\u00a0appears to be a fifth entry in the\u00a0Mass Effect\u00a0<\/em>franchise<\/a> in the works, although it is currently in the very early stages of development.<\/p>\n
