Immortals Fenyx Rising<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>is the brand new open-world action-adventure from Ubisoft Quebec. It\u2019s the same team that was responsible for creating\u00a0Assassin\u2019s Creed Odyssey<\/a>,\u00a0<\/i>which also uses an ancient Greek setting. However, in terms of presentation, style, and personality,\u00a0Immortals\u00a0<\/i>couldn\u2019t be more different.<\/p>\n

In fact,\u00a0Immortals Fenyx Rising\u00a0<\/i>unashamedly\u00a0borrows\u00a0from\u00a0The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>in almost every\u00a0way imaginable. That\u2019s not to say that there aren\u2019t some of the usual Ubi-open world flavors in there too. If you\u2019re familiar with the most recent\u00a0Assassin\u2019s Creed\u00a0<\/i>titles from\u00a0Origins\u00a0<\/i>to\u00a0Valhalla,\u00a0<\/i>you\u2019ll feel right at home with\u00a0Immortals<\/i>. Let\u2019s take a look at the best and worst things about the game to see if it sets itself apart from the games that inspired it.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Loved: The Fantastic Setting<\/h2>\n

If there\u2019s one thing that Ubisoft does well it\u2019s creating big open worlds for players to lose themselves in. Unlike the\u00a0Assassin\u2019s Creed\u00a0<\/i>series<\/a>, however,\u00a0Immortals Fenyx Rising\u00a0<\/i>opts for a world based on mythology and fantasy resulting in one of their best adventures in years.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not a game that\u2019s meant to be taken seriously, yet the level of escapism and enjoyment one can get from exploring its beautifully rich world never gets old. More importantly,\u00a0Immortals<\/i>\u00a0is simply about having as much fun as possible and it delivers in that\u00a0in spades.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Don\u2019t: The Stamina Gauge<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

One of the most annoying aspects of\u00a0Breath of the Wild\u00a0<\/i>was the stamina gauge. While it did force players to think more strategically. However, it did become something of annoyance when trying to complete tasks like climbing but at least it made sense in terms of the game\u2019s narrative.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the stamina mechanic has also been replicated in\u00a0Immortals<\/i>\u00a0but the concept doesn\u2019t quite work because Fenyx is a character that has been gifted the power of the gods. He\/She shouldn\u2019t feel so restricted when it comes to traversing the game\u2019s massive open world.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Loved: Excellent Puzzles<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Another area where\u00a0Immortals\u00a0<\/i>takes inspiration from\u00a0The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild\u00a0<\/i>in a positive way is the number of various puzzles that have implemented in the game. They offer a massive relief from Ubisoft\u2019s usual open-world formula and are creative and enjoyable to solve.<\/p>\n

The main puzzles in the game are called the Vaults of Tartaros and there more than 60 of them to be discovered. Each one can function as a way to change the world around Fenyx and open up areas that were once un-traversable.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Don\u2019t: The Modern Dialogue<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Coming from the same team that created\u00a0Assassin\u2019s Creed Odyssey, Immortals<\/i>\u00a0shares quite a lot in common with that game even beyond the focus on Greek mythology. However, where it does separate itself from the usual Ubisoft formula is the game\u2019s humor.<\/p>\n

For the most, it does hit home and it usually very funny but the game\u2019s use of modern dialogue to convey this can be quite jarring at times. Considering how well the game implements Greek myth into the storyline the very modern use of slang words feels completely out of place.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Loved: Great Implementation Of Greek Mythology<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Surprisingly, there are very few games that implement Greek mythology as it\u2019s setting for a videogame. Obviously, there\u2019s Ubisoft\u2019s own\u00a0Assassin\u2019s Creed Odyssey,\u00a0<\/i>the original\u00a0God of War\u00a0<\/i>games on the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, and\u00a0Titan Quest<\/i>\u00a0but beyond that, it isn\u2019t as well-trodden as the Tolkien-esque fantasy.<\/p>\n

Thankfully,\u00a0Immortals Fenyx Rising\u00a0<\/i>is just as good as those mentioned as well as being a game that\u2019s suitable for all ages<\/a>. The story isn\u2019t as complex or as dark as one would usually expect from this kind of setting and it\u2019s a story that all ages can appreciate without feeling like it\u2019s aimed too much at a younger audience.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Don\u2019t: Excellent Combat<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

There\u2019s a lot of combat and epic boss battles in\u00a0Immortals Fenyx Rising\u00a0<\/i>and thankfully, the combat system in the game is great. It\u2019s very similar to\u00a0Assassin\u2019s Creed Origins<\/a>, Odyssey,\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0Valhalla<\/i>\u00a0only with a more fantastical twist on the game\u2019s special moves.<\/p>\n

The only real difference is the game\u2019s implementation of stamina where players need to time their moves wisely with parries and combos like in\u00a0Breath of the Wild\u00a0<\/i>and to some extent the\u00a0Dark Souls\u00a0<\/i>series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Loved: Looks Great On All Platforms<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Visually,\u00a0Immortals\u2019\u00a0<\/i>art style looks more than a little bit similar to\u00a0The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild\u00a0<\/i>but it still manages to carve out an identity of its own. It\u2019s also worth noting that it looks fantastic on all systems from the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One up to the PlayStation 5.<\/p>\n

Obviously, the next-gen systems benefit from higher frame rates, higher resolutions, and longer draw distances but this is the kind of art style that will look good generations from now.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Don\u2019t: The Linear Endgame<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As the game nears its endgame the game\u2019s open-world nature becomes more driven and more linear. While these moments aren\u2019t bad by any stretch the pacing seems to hit a brick wall as\u00a0Immortal<\/i>\u2019s concluding moments begin to drag.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the game\u2019s final bass fight never seems to end and drags on for far too long. In addition, the game\u2019s difficulty suddenly spikes in what is for the most a pretty easy game to play. Thankfully, there\u2019s a lot to do in the world with plenty of opportunities to develop Fenyx\u2019s strength and abilities to be up to the task.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Loved:\u00a0It’s Rewarding<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

With the difficult endgame that\u2019s ahead one needs a character that is strong enough to be up to the challenge as there\u2019s no turning back or returning to\u00a0Immortal<\/i>\u2019s open-world once you make your way into the final level.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, the game\u2019s open-world is absolutely packed full of challenging puzzles and side quests that will go a long into gaining new powers and abilities. The Wraith battles and the challenges that can be found in the Vaults of Tartaros will reward you with Coins of Charon and Bolts of Lightning.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Don\u2019t: A Little Too Easy<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

With exception to the final battle and some of the more challenging puzzles,\u00a0Immortals<\/i>\u00a0Fenyx Rising\u00a0<\/i>is very easy even on the higher difficulties. Even some of the more imposing enemies like the Cyclops have very easy patterns to learn and are easy to defeat without much thought.<\/p>\n

In addition, you will very rarely feel like you are in danger of losing your health because of the seemingly endless supply of plants and herbs that function to replenish Fenyx\u2019s health and stamina with ease.<\/p>\n
