Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye<\/em> series has added The Conjuring<\/em> star Vera Farmiga to the cast in a key\u00a0role. The Academy Award-nominated actress joins an ensemble of new additions\u00a0to the team that includes\u00a0Fra Fee, Alaqua Cox, Zahn McClarnon, and Better Call Saul<\/em>‘s\u00a0Tony Dalton.<\/p>\n

Spearheaded by head writer\u00a0Jonathan Igla, Hawkeye<\/em> is set to follow Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton as he trains Kate Bishop to take over his title while also further exploring the archer’s time as the vigilante Ronin. Production on the Disney+ series began in late November and the set photos that emerged confirmed Hailee Steinfeld will portray Bishop<\/a> after months of speculation regarding whether or not she was still in the running for the role.<\/p>\n

Variety reports Farmiga will portray Kate’s mother\u00a0Eleanor Bishop, a character from the comics who at one point was revealed to have been the mastermind behind the machinations of her daughter’s nemesis Madame Masque. Dalton, perhaps best known for his role as\u00a0Lalo Salamanca in AMC’s Better Call Saul<\/em><\/a>, will play\u00a0Jack Duquesne, a potentially new incarnation of the comic book character\u00a0Jacques Duquesne, a.k.a. Swordsman. Alternating between hero and villain in the comics, Swordsman was responsible for training a young Barton before turning to a life of crime and falling out with his former pupil.\u00a0Hawkeye<\/em> will also mark the onscreen debut of Cox, who will portray\u00a0Maya Lopez\/Echo,\u00a0a deaf Native American superhero with the ability to mimic another person’s fighting moves. The character is traditionally depicted as a supporting\u00a0player in Marvel Comics’ Daredevil<\/em> stories.<\/p>\n

McClarnon will take on the role of\u00a0William Lopez, a character who will probably be a new take on Echo’s father\u00a0Willie “Crazy Horse” Lincoln from the comics. Similarly, Fee’s character Kazi is likely a contemporary version of the mercenary villain Kazimierz Kazimierczak, a.k.a. Clown. The group of newcomers will also be joined by Florence Pugh,<\/a> who reprises her role as\u00a0Yelena Belova from Marvel Studios’ Black Widow<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye<\/em> is just one of multiple MCU shows being developed for Disney+ as part of the company’s Phase 4 slate. While many will focus on already-established supporting characters, others will\u00a0introduce new characters to the MCU before they appear in the feature films, including Ms. Marvel<\/a> and She-Hulk.<\/p>\n

WandaVision<\/em> will officially launch Marvel Studio’s slate of Disney+ projects when the series debuts in January. With the entire line-up of 2020 MCU films postponed until the following year, WandaVision<\/em> will also mark the beginning of Marvel Studios’ Phase 4<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hawkeye<\/em> is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Disney on a yet-to-be-determined date.<\/p>\n
