While many might expect the game would crop up due to a significant anniversary or fan celebration, similar to the likes of\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-15-fans-celebrating-anniversary\/\">Final Fantasy 15<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0<em>Halo 3&#8217;s<\/em>\u00a0recent stints trending on the platform,<em>\u00a0<\/em>the reality is much\u00a0more unexpected.<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, the game soared to the top of Twitter&#8217;s trending charts due to a single stream helmed by notorious Hololive Vtuber Mori Calliope, who begged Atlus to let her\u00a0play\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/persona-3\/\">Persona 3<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>for\u00a0her fanbase during a lengthy\u00a0broadcast. Calliope didn&#8217;t play games or partake in any other activities either, simply spending 90 minutes repeating variations of the phrase &#8220;Atlus, please let me play\u00a0<em>Persona 3.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/persona-3-remake-vs-persona-6\/\">A Persona 3 Remake Should Come Before Persona 6<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For those wondering why the Vtuber was\u00a0pleading\u00a0to play a fourteen-year-old game,\u00a0the reasoning isn&#8217;t entirely clear. Atlus has\u00a0a history of being restrictive about its games, however,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/persona-5-stream-video-rule\/\">making a point during the release of <em>Persona 5<\/em> to threaten creators streaming the game with copyright strikes<\/a> if they failed to follow a strict set of guidelines. The idea was allegedly to prevent\u00a0streamers from spoiling the game for new players, although it was a move that proved incredibly divisive. In Mori Calliope&#8217;s case, it seems she wants Atlus to give her permission to make a stream of the JRPG happen, even offering to only play up to a certain point in an effort to entice new players to enjoy\u00a0<em>Persona 3\u00a0<\/em>on their own.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cata_tilde\/status\/1334494599772073986?ref_src=https:\/\/gamerant.com\/persona-3-twitter-trending-why-mori-calliope-twitch\/twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1334494599772073986%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.polygon.com%2F2020%2F12%2F3%2F22151131%2Fmori-calliope-vtuber-youtube-livestream-atlus-persona-3%22 frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoaJoGio\/status\/1334484695606849536\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The stream beckoned\u00a0all of Calliope&#8217;s fanbase to join her cause, tweeting at Atlus and swamping the\u00a0<em>Persona 3\u00a0<\/em>hashtag with pleading messages, memes, and fan art. It quickly became an online movement, as fans rallied to get the popular VTuber the permission she\u00a0needed to deliver\u00a0<em>Persona 3\u00a0<\/em>to her wide fanbase. Luckily, it seems the plan managed to get some attention, with a representative for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/persona-5-strikers-international-release-date-leaked-atlus\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlus<\/a> telling Polygon that they actually weren&#8217;t aware of her request until the hashtag started trending on Twitter. According to the rep, they&#8217;re &#8220;looking into&#8221; it, although Polygon does note that the matter could be more wrapped up in Japanese copyright law than some expect, especially considering the Vtuber is part of the Hololive talent agency.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, it was a fun movement that saw Calliope&#8217;s fans rally together to make the\u00a0streamer heard. For those unassociated with <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/vtubers-making-creators-big-money\/\">the Vtuber trend<\/a>, it&#8217;s essentially a new style of streaming that replaces real-life streamers with anime avatars.
