When a popular studio announces a new game, fans always know how to manage their excitement based on whether or not the announcement contains a release date. If the studio refrains from revealing that, fans know they’re going to have to be patient. Long waits are never easy, but building anticipation can make a game’s release explosive. That’s probably what Obsidian Entertainment is banking on<\/a> with\u00a0Avowed.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>It’s a big deal when the masterminds behind\u00a0Fallout: New Vegas\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0The Outer Worlds\u00a0<\/em>announce another RPG, even if it means fans have to wait. Obsidian has tons of supporters who would agree its products are worth a wait.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t look like Obsidian has much more to say about\u00a0Avowed<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>right now. The game was revealed over summer as Obsidian’s parent company Microsoft talked in more depth about the next generation of the Xbox. It’s evident that\u00a0Avowed\u00a0<\/em>is a long ways out, since right now Obsidian is talking much more about\u00a0Grounded,\u00a0<\/em>the backyard survival game. Obsidian might choose to go a long time before saying anything more about\u00a0Avowed,\u00a0<\/em>but that’s okay. The more time Obsidian takes to work on the game, the bigger the eventual reveal will likely be.<\/p>\n

With the\u00a0Peril of Gorgon\u00a0<\/em>DLC for The\u00a0<\/em>Outer Worlds\u00a0<\/em>released and the early access period for\u00a0Grounded\u00a0<\/em>well underway, it’s clear that Obsidian has a lot more to work on right now than just\u00a0Avowed.\u00a0<\/em>Grounded\u00a0<\/em>has gotten lots of updates and additions over the last few months, and\u00a0The Outer Worlds\u00a0<\/em>will get another DLC<\/a> sometime next year. While there’s got to be plenty of work going into\u00a0Avowed\u00a0<\/em>right now, it’s too far away to be in Obsidian’s spotlight for the moment. When the time is right, it’s sure to get more than enough time in the\u00a0sun.<\/p>\n

What makes the eventual reveal of\u00a0Avowed<\/em>‘s gameplay so exciting is how little is actually known about it. Speculation abounds, since Obsidian has already made it clear that the game shares the setting of Eora with\u00a0Pillars of Eternity.\u00a0<\/em>In that sense,\u00a0Pillars of Eternity\u00a0<\/em>is the best source<\/a> of information players have in determining what\u00a0Avowed\u00a0<\/em>looks like. Unlike other far-off fantasy adventures in new settings like\u00a0Elden Ring,\u00a0<\/em>fans have something they can compare\u00a0the mysterious\u00a0Avowed\u00a0<\/em>to. Those who loved\u00a0Eora’s magic, lore, combat, and so on before are full of expectations for what the world will look like in a first person adventure, and it’s up to Obsidian to meet or exceed those expectations.<\/p>\n

There’s a lot that Obsidian can achieve when it eventually reveals\u00a0Avowed<\/em>‘s details. It can draw players into the world with lore and story focused trailers, or it can appeal to technically minded players by glorifying the game’s combat, mechanics, and graphics. Probably most likely is that Obsidian will strike a balance of the two. That’ll go a long way to helping\u00a0Avowed\u00a0<\/em>further set itself apart, since it’s gotten a lot of comparisons to\u00a0Skyrim\u00a0<\/em>even before a proper gameplay and story reveal. Even though that’s a flattering comparison, it’s in Obsidian’s best interest to show how\u00a0Avowed\u00a0<\/em>is truly unique and striking<\/a>. Avowed<\/em> will really make a mark on gaming history if it can outshine such a fantasy cornerstone.<\/p>\n

The ideal scenario is that Obsidian comes forward and reveals a veritable deluge of details sometime in 2021. It can’t wait too long, or else fans might take matters into their own hands and draft up a theoretical version of\u00a0Avowed\u00a0<\/em>like the aforementioned\u00a0Elden Ring<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>Since it’s in Eora, there’s plenty of lore to work with. Maybe by the time the next\u00a0Outer Worlds\u00a0<\/em>DLC releases and\u00a0Grounded\u00a0<\/em>nears the end of development, Obsidian will come forward with an even to celebrate this anticipated RPG. Patience is a virtue, and hopefully it’ll pay off for\u00a0Avowed\u00a0<\/em>soon.<\/p>\n
