Special <strong><em>Fortnite\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>announcements\u00a0have become a hallmark\u00a0of the annual\u00a0award show, and 2020 seems to be continuing the tradition.<\/p>\n<p>The Game Awards\u00a0are\u00a0aiming to be the video game industry&#8217;s answer to the Emmys and Oscars, and for the past two years\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/fortnite\/\">Fortnite<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>has dropped major announcements that shaped the future of the game. In 2018, Fortnite introduced The Block\u00a0point of interest, while 2019 followed up with the announcement of\u00a0<em>Fortnite&#8217;s\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> crossover. Epic Games&#8217; battle royale shooter has also earned major accolades at the awards, walking away with the award for &#8220;Best Ongoing Game&#8221; two years straight.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-beskar-quests-upgraded-mandalorian-armor-get\/\">Fortnite: Complete All Beskar Quests and Get Upgraded Mandalorian Armor<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Geoff Keighley, producer and host of The Game Awards, posted an image of a non-descript brown leather backpack with a tag reading &#8220;This Bag Issued to Agent Jones.&#8221; While the teaser is likely lost on those who are unfamiliar with <em>Fortnite<\/em>&#8216;s multiverse, Agent John &#8220;Jonesy&#8221; Jones is a recurring character in the narrative who has previously been spotted in cutscenes relating to major in-game events. The teaser comes hot on the heels of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-zero-point-hunting-grounds-season-5-story-trailer\/\"><em>Fortnite<\/em>&#8216;s Season 5, called Zero Point, with a surprise skin, and new map locations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/geoffkeighley\/status\/1335314523557773312\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Jones is akin to the Nick Fury of the\u00a0<em>Fortnite<\/em> universe, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-crossover-events-2020\/\">recruiting characters from other realms\u00a0for\u00a0<em>Fortnite&#8217;s<\/em> crossover events<\/a>. The bag in Keighley&#8217;s teaser tweet has appeared on Jones&#8217; back in cutscenes, though its current contents are unknown.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement will likely relate to other big\u00a0news that has been teased, including the rumor that <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-smash-bros-ultimate-fortnite-epic-games\/\"><em>Fortnite<\/em> characters\u00a0may appear in <em>Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em><\/a>. Epic Games&#8217; creative director, Donald Mustard, hinted that <em>Fortnite\u00a0<\/em>may be making the jump to Nintendo&#8217;s popular crossover fighting game. This is likely not the only\u00a0<em>Fortnite\u00a0<\/em>announcement that could take place at\u00a0The Game Awards however, as prior years&#8217; announcements have revealed big changes that affect the game as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>Tweets detailing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/big-fortnite-announcement-smash-bros-game-awards\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a recent Zoom call between Keighley and Mustard<\/a> add some credence to this rumor, where Mustard allegedly said\u00a0a new event would be changing the future of <em>Fortnite.<\/em>\u00a0When asked whether <em>Fortnite\u00a0<\/em>characters would be coming to\u00a0<em>Smash,<\/em> Mustard declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the lack of the usual live audience, 2020 is shaping up to be a big year for The Game Awards, with high profile titles like Naughty Dog&#8217;s\u00a0<em>The Last of Us Part 2<\/em> and surprise hits like Supergiant Games&#8217; <em>Hades\u00a0<\/em>dueling for top honors. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-game-awards-2020-troy-baker-stephen-a-smith\/\">The awards&#8217; line-up of announcers includes Troy Baker, Stephen A.
