It includes a fan voted award for Game of the Year, which also has an <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/game-awards-2020-goty-final-fanasy-last-us-2-ghost-tsushima-hades-doom-eternal\/\">award decided by game industry professionals<\/a>. Today the final five nominees were announced, and it has sparked so much discussion on Twitter that \u201cGOTY\u201d is trending, along with some of the nominees.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/the-game-awards\/\">The Game Awards<\/a> will be taking place on Thursday and is bringing some serious star power with it. Not only will industry stars like former head of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-president-reggie-fils-aime-game-awards-2020\/\">Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime and current head of Xbox Phil Spencer<\/a> make an appearance, but so will Hollywood gamers like <em>Captain Marvel <\/em>star Brie Larson and fellow Avenger and <em>Spider-Man\u00a0<\/em>actor Tom Holland. But perhaps most excitingly, the show will feature giant reveals from games like the never-before-seen <em>Dragon Age 4<\/em>, and even announcements of brand new games.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/dragon-age-4-game-awards-2020-trailer\/\"><strong>What to Expect from Dragon Age 4 at The Game Awards 2020<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>While there will be a great deal of pageantry, the point of the show is\u00a0the awards, which includes a fan-voted award for Game of the Year. After several rounds of voting, the final five nominees are, in order of most to least votes: <em>The Last of Us Part 2<\/em>, <em>Ghost of Tsushima<\/em>, <em>Hades, Doom Eternal<\/em>, and <em>Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man: Miles Morales<\/em>. The fans voting have now taken to Twitter to express their opinions.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thegameawards\/status\/1335754762986217474?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>The Last of Us Part 2\u00a0<\/em>is winning but it is hotly contested because while it is incredibly popular, there was a large number\u00a0of people who did not like the direction the game took with respect to its characters. The reactions were so visceral that it led to some <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/last-of-us-2-abby-laura-bailey-death-threats\/\">people sending death threats to voice actress Laura Bailey<\/a> over her character Abby\u2019s part in the story.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RedRozeReaper\/status\/1335678410283229187?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In a close second place at the time of this writing is <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ghost-of-tsushima-sales\/\"><em>Ghost of Tsushima<\/em>, which is one of one of Sony\u2019s most successful new IP<\/a>s. Many on Twitter are sharing their love for the story of protagonist Jin Sakai and the beautiful art direction of the game. While it seems like the winner will likely be one of the leading two Sony first party titles, many are still tweeting out their support for games like the indie darling <em>Hades <\/em>and Sony\u2019s third first-party game to be nominated this year, <em>Miles Morales<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kasavin\/status\/1335654092526391297?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The final winner of the fan-voted Game of the Year award won\u2019t be officially announced until the show on Thursday.
