Paramount Pictures and Skydance attempted to revive the Terminator<\/em><\/strong> franchise with a new entry titled\u00a0Terminator: Dark Fate. <\/em>Unfortunately, the film didn’t resonate with enough moviegoers to yield box office success and plans were for a sequel were canceled, though actress\u00a0Mackenzie Davis has now shed light on what had been planned for the future of the series.<\/p>\n

Davis, who made her first appearance in the franchise with Dark Fate<\/em>, portrayed an enhanced super-soldier from the year 2042\u00a0named Grace.\u00a0As a teenager, Grace had been taken in and trained by Daniella Ramos, the commanding founder of the Resistance in the war between humans and the Legion’s army of machines<\/a>. Serving as part of Ramos’ security detail, Grace sustained critical injuries that resulted in her volunteering to be transformed into a cyborg with the ability to briefly take on abilities similar to those of\u00a0Terminators.<\/p>\n

Armed with these new augmentations, Grace is sent back in time to protect a younger Daniella from the Legion’s advanced Terminator<\/em><\/a> known as the\u00a0Rev-9. However, Grace’s abilities do not make her immune to the normal weaknesses of humans and though she is successful in ensuring Daniella would live to lead the Resistance in the future, the victory comes at the cost of her own life.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, Davis revealed that her character was slated to return for the sequel had plans to continue the Terminator<\/a><\/em> franchise moved forward. “It was gonna be a sort of timeline thing, where there’d be another timeline that you’d explore. Like, there’s no resurrection, but she came from the future,” she explained during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast.<\/p>\n

The franchise\u00a0had previously played with the concept of alternate timelines in\u00a0Terminator Genisys. <\/i>Released in 2015, Genysis<\/em> was primarily set in a timeline where a young Sarah Connor, played by Emilia Clarke<\/a>, had been raised by a\u00a0reprogrammed Terminator. Plans for Genisys<\/em> sequels were\u00a0eventually scrapped in favor of Dark Fate<\/em>, which served as a direct sequel to the original\u00a0Terminator<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Judgement Day<\/em>\u00a0while ignoring all other entries in the franchise.<\/p>\n

Of course, much of the frustration directed towards Dark Fate<\/em> stemmed from the creative team’s decision to kill off Edward Furlong’s John Connor<\/a>.\u00a0In doing so, many long-time fans of the Terminator<\/em> franchise felt the filmmaker had done a disservice to the accomplishments of both Sarah and John in Judgement Day<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Davis’ career has not been without success since the\u00a0release of\u00a0Dark Fate<\/em>. The Canadian actress recently starred opposite Kristen Stewart in Hulu’s Happiest Season<\/em><\/a>, a romantic comedy centered on the relationship between two women that has proven to be a hit for the streamer.<\/p>\n

Terminator: Dark Fate<\/em><\/strong> is now available on Amazon Prime Video.<\/p>\n
