Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild. With a faery, hand in hand, these Fairy-types for to all command.<\/em> Alright, we may not be W.B. Yeats, but Fairy-types were a marvelous addition to\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon with the release of Pok\u00e9mon X & Y<\/a>.\u00a022 separate\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon were retroactively made into Fairy-types<\/a>, and Charm, Moonlight, and Sweet Kiss changed move typings as well.<\/p>\n

With their introduction, Dragon-types suddenly had\u00a0a new threat and the competitive nature of the games changed forever. While Fairy-types have recently been removed from the\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon TCG<\/a> they still play a large role in the games today, and pure Fairy-types\u00a0provide serious variety that should not be ignored.<\/p>\n

19 <\/span>Cleffa<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

There has never remotely been a good use for Cleffa in any mainline Pok\u00e9mon<\/a> game. Its biggest claim to fame in a game is likely its inclusion as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee<\/a>, not even from its own game! Not to mention, Cleffa is responsible for one of the most annoying decks to ever be used in the Pok\u00e9mon\u00a0TCG<\/em>: Babyporter.<\/p>\n

Using Dark Vileplume to block Trainer cards, players then attacked with Dark Alakazam which\u00a0allowed them to switch with a benched Pok\u00e9mon. Players would inevitably choose Cleffa who’s ability at the time forced opposing players to flip a coin to even be able to attack. Players had to rely on pure luck to attain victory while their prizes and spirits were slowly chipped away.<\/p>\n

18 <\/span>Florges<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Florges is one of the only four\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon that evolves with a Shiny Stone. It has the highest Special Defense stat of all Fairy-types as well. The reason we’re focusing on stats here is that Florges lacks any other major impacts in the world of\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon minus one notable deck in the\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon TCG<\/em> where it was combined with Sawsbuck to take some notable regional placements.<\/p>\n

17 <\/span>Milcrey<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Milcrey was one of the newest Pok\u00e9mon to join the ranks in Pok\u00e9mon Sword & Shield<\/a> and has one of the most fascinating ways to evolve<\/a> that has ever existed within the series. Not only do its forms change depending on which direction players spin but the time of day also affects its evolution as well. Unfortunately, these are the only notable things about Milcrey and while trainers enjoy its sweetness most want to evolve it as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

16 <\/span>Swirlix<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Swirlix\u00a0is one of the large selection of\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon<\/a> that can come out of a\u00a0Pok\u00e9ball in Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/a>. However, Swirlix is most often known for its minor appearances in the anime and games. Swirlix can join players teams in Battle Trozei <\/a>and Rumble World\u00a0and has its own stages in both\u00a0\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Picross\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Shuffle<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The reason fans likely remember Swirlix most however is as the gluttonous stewardess of the Expedition Society in Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon<\/a>. Swirlix isn’t about to be strong in battle by any means, but this cotton candy pup will keep being adorable for games to come.<\/p>\n

15 <\/span>Flab\u00e9b\u00e9<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

For a series with one in its very own title, it is remarkable that Flab\u00e9b\u00e9 is the only\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon with a diacritical mark in its name. It was also the first new Fairy-type in the\u00a0Pok\u00e9dex when they were originally introduced. These adorable colorful flower friends are also notable for their cameos in the Detective Pikachu movie. While trainers aren’t likely to use it in battle in the games itself Mairin, Grey, and Shauna all use one in the anime.<\/p>\n

14 <\/span>Aromatisse<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Aromatisse was one of the new Fairy-type Pok\u00e9mon that came with Generation VI. At one point it boasted Aromatic Mist as a signature move but these days others can use it to help boost an ally’s Special Defense in battle.\u00a0It’s also the only\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon with a base stat total of 462! Which is a distinction. We guess. While it isn’t instrumental\u00a0in the real-life competitive scene<\/a>, it was used by Kalos Queen Aria in the anime during her competitive reign.<\/p>\n

13 <\/span>Slurpuff<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Trade a Swirlix who’s holding Whipped Dream<\/a> and voil\u00e0\u00a0\u2014 a trainer becomes the proud owner of a Slurpuff. Then what? Minus a Belly Drum set that can easily be outclassed by other\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon, it has little use competitively. Fans at least have positive memories of Slurpuff from the anime<\/a> where Miette used it in every Pok\u00e9mon Showcase. Slurpuff was also featured in Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel<\/a> as a member of one of Raleigh’s team. Plus who can forget the adorable dancing scene between Slufpuff and Ash’s Pikachu<\/a>?<\/p>\n

12 <\/span>Comfey<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Who hasn’t wanted to own a living lei capable of battle? This Fairy-type holds the distinction of being the only one in the Plant egg group<\/a> that isn’t a Grass-type. While it doesn’t pack much of a punch in battle, it does offer a strong support option in its unique move Floral Healing as well.<\/p>\n

Outside of the games, the Comfey were a big part of the anime in the Alola region as they accompanied each Nurse Joy. Plus Brock “Drying Pan<\/a>” Harrison (yes that is Brock’s real last name) had his own Comfey that was kind, caring, and even helped heal a baby Kangashkan. Awwwwww!<\/p>\n

11 <\/span>Granbull<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Other than Madame Muchmoney’s Garnbull, this Fairy-type never really saw much relevance in the anime nor in the video games. However, in the\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon TCG, Granbull had tremendous popularity. The Granbull card from Lost Thunder<\/em> was the basis for one of the most powerful budget decks the game has ever seen. With its extreme affordability, even players newer to the game could get a deck that could take first place at major tournaments. Players a little light on cash will always have fond memories of Granbull in their hearts.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Spritzee<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Spritzee is incredibly bulky for not being fully evolved which has made it a metagame standard in Little Cup since its initial release. Pop on an Eviolite and that bulk become impossible to surpass for other small Pok\u00e9mon<\/a>. It may not have any competitive uses in the games outside of this but it has been shown to be a fierce battler in the anime. Valerie uses it in three separate major battles, two of which are gym battles, and Spritzee manages to take down at least one opponent each time.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Snubbull<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

First, it’s spelled Snubbull, not Snubble! Now, let’s continue! Older fans will remember Snubbull being among four rowdy\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon in the short Pikachu’s Vacation but this Fairy-type can do so much more. It has by far has one of the coolest shiny forms<\/a> in the entire series, so much so that many players choose to never evolve one if caught. Plus for players that enjoy battling in Little Cup on Smogon, Snubbull actually is a brutal attacker that can be the powerhouse behind many successful teams.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Floette<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

While Floette does come in many colorful forms, it lacks any other major distinctive factors when it comes to the gameplay itself. One of its greatest claims to fame comes from the anime where it has a major appearance in six separate episodes.<\/p>\n

Floette also played a major\u00a0role in Pokemon Generations<\/a>. We’ll avoid spoilers here, but fans that have played\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon X & Y can attest that a Floette plays a major part in all of the game’s lore. Floette is proof that even a middle evolution can have time to shine.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Clefable<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

It is impossible to deny the battle power that Clefable can bring to teams and many Moon Stones have been used to get one over the years. This extraterrestrial\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon has helped players everywhere from Ubers to competitive VGC because of its excellent recovery ability, decent bulk, and great defensive typing. Players may have a tough time choosing between a Clefable with Magic Guard or Unaware, but they won’t have a hard time falling in love with this adorable Fairy-type<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Togepi<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Togepi was the first\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon to have its name known before the game it was featured in was released and to this day is likely the most memorable baby\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon in the entire series. The adventures of Misty’s Togepi<\/a> will be etched into the minds of fans for years to come. Any player that played through Generation II also received Togepi as their first introduction to eggs within the entire franchise, leading many of them to train it up on their own teams. It’s hard to find a fan of the games that doesn’t love the adorable Togepi.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Xerneas<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Xerneas is not only the mascot of\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon X<\/em> but is one of the most powerful Fairy-types in all of existence. That’s not just in the lore either. Its stats are through the roof and give it a Power Leaf to hold while it uses its signature Geomancy and it’s ready to sweep through\u00a0many teams. It is so powerful that it has been seen in and out of VGC teams since 2016 and players always have to be prepared to face its might in battle.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Alcremie<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Alcremie does not only look delicious<\/a> but also comes in so many forms (or should we say flavors) that it makes the phrase Catch em’ All<\/em> take on a whole new meaning. This beautiful\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon comes in over 64 forms, the most of any\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon in existence. That’s almost half of the number of\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon in Gen I!<\/p>\n

It’s Gigantamax Form is also impressive. Each creamy missile it fires contains 100,000 kilocalories (a kilocalorie contains 1000 calories) which would be overkill for any meal. Still, it is known better for boosting its ally’s stats and healing their HP with Decorate and G-Max Finale.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Sylveon<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Sylveon may not be the strongest of the eeveelutions competitively<\/a>, but it is quite likely the most graceful and gorgeous of the bunch. It is by far the most popular Fairy-type introduced in Generation IV and its status as an eeveelution will keep it as a popular\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon for years to come.<\/p>\n

Also, whether intentional or not, Sylveon has become a symbol of pride<\/a> for transgender Pok\u00e9mon fans throughout the world as its color scheme matches the Trans Pride Flag<\/a>.\u00a0Any\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon that can bring some positivity to a marginalized group deserves top placement on any list!<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Zacian<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The mascot of\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Sword<\/em>, Zacian is an absolute beast on the battlefield. It has the highest Attack and Speed stat of any Fairy-type in existence and the highest base stats overall for its typing. It isn’t just a powerhouse in the video games either, the Zacian V deck<\/a> has a ridiculous number of high placements at tournaments. Even without its Crowned Sword form, Zacian is a marvelously good boy that any trainer would love to pet, let alone have on their team.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Clefairy<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

In an alternate universe, Clefairy is the mascot of the series and Pikachu is just another cute Electric-type<\/a>. Clefairy is arguable the original fairy (the word fairy is literally in its name) and has appeared in the anime series over 25 times. Players will also fondly remember the Clefairy Says minigame in Pok\u00e9mon Stadium<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Still, these aren’t the reasons it is the best pure Fairy-type. Clefairy has been used on teams since 2015 to place at regionals, nationals, and even once at the Worlds VGC Tournament. It has also been on the 1st place team at a major event three times and is currently a well-known threat in Sword & Shield’s<\/em> competitive play. Clefairy is the ultimate example that players don’t need to fully evolve a\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon and can use the ones they love most and still win battles with a bit of creativity.<\/p>\n
